Pop and then a smell?

i mean check the current from your switched 12v wire... if that fried, the supply inside the unit could have died as well, which may not affect your unit until you try and use the switched 12v... (we are talking about the remote wire, yes? or are we talking about the accessory wire? in taht case, try playing it with the engine off, in accessory...)
