Polyfil inside foam baffles for door speakers?

^ Could I get a pair of those, or maybe the 3-1/4" deep ones and put a little polyfil in them?

Would that help my door speakers to play deeper & tighter, and keep the sound from resonating anything in my doors?

your door speakers are supposed to play iso-baricly.......no need for poly fill....the only reason you'd want somtin similar to that is for protection from the elements(rain,water,you get the point)

so foam baffles don't offer any acoustical pluses over not having them?

Actually, that looks like a nice idea. Call me n00bish, but couldn't something at least similar to an enclosure improve midbass response? Not everyone can use 10"s for midbass, Squeak. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I don't know NOW. I guess it depends on how much air space the average 6.5" needs. Because I calculated how much air space the 3.25" deep baffle would have, and that's about 0.05 cubic feet BEFORE speaker displacement...

The polyfil would help that out some, but not much. So...I don't know. It depends on the typical airspace requirement for 6.5" speakers. Does anybody know how much space the typical 6.5" needs?

5's, 6's, fours...... whatever. Don't think of them as needing airspace. The frequencies they play are just high enough that their vibration makes sound and they don't need an enclosure. They typically just need a baffle that prevents the waves from he front of the speaker from "seeing" the waves from the back of the speaker. Sorry ,that may or may not make sense. Point is, yeah they "look" like a good idea. They "look" like they'd do something. But, they're mostly usesless.

Don't you think the manufacturers would print air space needs on the box or in the manual if an enclosure was necessary?

But you'll have to deal the other side effects of putting them into an enclosure as well...such as quite possibly worse low frequency extension (sure, the midbass sounds good...but only down to 130hz where it starts to roll off rapidly), etc etc. Remember, most car audio speakers are designed to perform the way the manufacturer intended in an infinite baffle setup. Mids aren't too different from subs (in the midbass region)....you wouldn't stick a sub in way too small of an enclosure to gain a slight benefit in a very, very narrow frequency range, would you?

Not saying that there are no car audio speakers that may benefit from being in an enclosure (XXX6.5, for example)...but speaking in generalities, it's typically best to leave them IB

Well, fine! =p I´ll just leave them as is! I was hoping to improve my midbass, too, it´s almost -3 db right around 90-110. =( Ah well, such is life.

You could always put foam on the inside of the doors to absorb the back wave. As long as it doesn´t interfere with the window you´re fine.

i still might get a pair and cut some small holes in the bottom of them to keep them from getting rain on the magnet - because water DOES get inside the door.
