Poll: Favorite motors

Sorry for the name calling, but a 4.3L is a 5.7 - (that little slash is a minus sign) 2 cylinders.
Little confusing. Sorry. But yeah, thats what people like to call a 4.3, a 350 missing 2 cylinders. Pretty funny actually. Although i wish i had the other 2 cylinders. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

My bad, those motors are pretty impressive though. That 2.6 or 2.8L V6 ***** and the 2.2L in all its might doesnt dyno over a 100hp.

cause yamaha made them
My ass the motors don't fall apart! That's the first thing to go. You had to wind them out so hard to ge the power that any SHO with 100K plus is usually junk. Usually. And yea, all the Ford Taurus bodies ****. They should have put them in CrownVic's. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/toast.gif.bc0657bf54b9ee653b6438524461341e.gif

Funny; I always thought the tranny was the first thing to go in a Taurus. But that motor should not go in a crown vic; too heavy; if any car needed a big V8 to get around, the crown vic is one of them. Ford needs to give up the miser, penny-pinching crap and drop the 5.4 triton in them. The new 300 hp three-valve truck motor would be nice.

Everything about the Ford Taurus breaks at random times, regardless... My mom has owned three of them, each and every one had problems with the brakes, transmission and the newest one has the worst stereo i've ever heard in a new car. As for the Crown Vic needing a different motor, that needed to be done as soon as they switched from the 5.0 to the 4.6. It is as well built as it can be with the cheap parts it is made of. For example, you can't put nitrous on it because the piston rods will break. The tranny's are decent on them, but not the strongest by far. Generally made for as little money as possible, but very reliable, with plenty of room for subs.

BS, the rods wont "break". Any internal combustion engine can handle atleast a 50 shot of NOS with correct spark, timing, and a wide open throttle. You always hear ***** stories of people blowing them up b/c they dont know how to use it.

50 shot of nos?....Maybe; but the crown vic's 4.6 is already stressed from hauling around two tons of car. And Ford powder-cast stock rods ARE absolute crap; usually the first thing to break in any boosted mustang if they'er not changed.

POLL STATS SO FAR: After weeding thru the side coversations, looks like the GM big-blocks and the LS1 are ahead for the domestics and the 2JZ-GTE for the imports.

True that the Ecotec 4 could be better; In fact, I probably should correct myself on this one. The Ford SVT 2.0 Ztec is a much better motor, but Ford has announced that the SVT Focus is on its way out as of '05---bad decision in my book. As far as stock 4-cylinders go, the domestic "Big 3" still have a long way to go to catch up with ALL of the japanies manufacturers.

If I was in the market for good performing normally asperated 4-cylinder car, in the absence of the SVT Focus which is a good car all around for the price, I would most likely go with either Honda or Toyota.

my fave 4 banger is the 2.4 turbo in the SRT-4

they can take a lot of abuse, very well built.

the last SRT-4 that was dynoed was 247hp with 279 lb ft of tourque...Right off the show room floor.

B/C that motor has been around for 15+ years, reasonable assumption.

uhhh and what vehicle was this EXACT engine in??

on a side note, at one time i had some queer try and tell me that the engine in the SRT4 was the exact same thing as a viper except smaller....i laughed for 20 minutes strait...

because there is guys running over 350hp on styock internals with no effects....

Mopar performance tore one apart and said for Street and Track use it is super over built.

The 2.4 in the stratus/pt/pt turbo and SRT-4 hasn't been around for 15 years....

maybe you are thinking of the 2.2 and 2.5 turbo SOHC's from the 80's

Most all motors i've seen that are engineered from the factory for forced induction can usually be made to produce more power (to a point) with little or no problems. Almost every factory boosted four thats hit the streets is capable of 300+ hp. due to a stronger block and internals from the factory. Subaru EJ20; VW/Audi 1.8T; Mopar SRT-4 2.2; Mitsubishi 4G63; Nissan SR20DET; Seen examples of them all producing well in excess of 300 hp. As long as Chrysler is (Hopefully) not using the composite head gasket, those motors in the SRT-4 should hold up fairly well. I hope the same can be said for the rest of the car.

Later.

edit: i read somewhere that one guy was running just under 500hp completely stock on the SRT-4....thats schweet, he even posted dyno results.

also i drive a 2001 Neon...it has been a **** good car to me...Engine and body wise....the only body problems are stonechips due to how low i am....

i dunno why everyone thinks they don't last, they last very well...the first gens (95-99) had some probs, but they were still a very well built car.

My dad works for Chrysler and he says neons are never in the shop with body or suspension problems.... the only big probs are washer fluid motor plugs up in winter with ice....and the oddball prob like coil pack probs or Rear mainseal probs.

mine was leaking a bit and warranty fixed it, so no probs now...

Everyone thinks that the SRT-4's $26,000CDN price tag means cheap junk....

Cheap yes, but in the sense that Chrysler used an existing reliable platform and changed the suspension, brakes, wheels, tranny, engine and a few interior pieces..thats why there is not a high price tag.

350 TPI. Can have some fun in my little IROC if you're ever in town //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif460BB.

572.

396.

429 Cobra Jet.

455 Stage 1.

454 LS6.

440 +6.

426 HEMI.

Bet you can't guess which era of cars I like //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

The best era... That is.

New crap annoys me.

Add the 327 to that list.

Not a powerhouse, not a big block. Just a nice engine.
