i was tuning my system today and my momo's tweeters smoked and my mids sound like *** now : ( Im wondering if anyone can help me figure out why they blew ? They were being powered by a sundown 100.2, and i think i set my gain accordinly ( first time setting gain for a 2 channel amp ) i used the equation sqrt(100x4ohm) and set the gain so that each channel was sending a voltage close to 20v. is that the right way to do it or do i add the channels up and set the gain to 40v? anyways i was playing some test tones ( 50-200hz sine sweep) ,(1 hz- 22khz sine sweep), etc and the drivers side stopped playing. also wondering if i can get any suggestions on new speakers ? Price range for new comp speakers is about $250.......... i was looking at the Image Dynamics CTX65CS's and thought those might be a good choice. Why.........test tones. IMO you should never run tones through your front stage with full power. My guess is they were 0db tones. Most music is equal to -6db IIRC.

you should have definately NOT had your speakers hooked up while tuning. thats a big no no.

yes they were 0db tones : ( however i dint have it turned up all the way........... i know i ****ed them up and am by no means very good at tuning my mids/highs. How do you guys tune your system ? this is my first system with comps........... im not very experienced in this part of car audio............ yet maybe some day lol

You could have just adjusted your gain by ear and you would avoided all these problems...
