pointing the subs!

So you had 8 eight inch sub woofers? Why... actually, this is car audio, i know why! BEtter question. Got any pics? How did you have them wired? What amp!!!
I have a few pics in a folder on my myspace. Actually had one enclosure with 6 of them, then added two more for the next enclosure. Had them running off a Rockford 1501bd at 2 ohms.

yes, it can be bent. there are multiple pictures on this very forum of box builds and people bending/rounding the port area.
and your telling him sealed 8's can be loud but make your music sound like crap? what kind of help is that? please, dont give advice unless you know what you're talking about. kthx
I've seen pics of lots of installs and have yet to see anyone try and bend mdf. I know you can bend some types of wood with the right number of relief cuts, but I've never seen this in car audio applications. And bending or rounding a port area? Wouldn't that be done with a router and not actually bending wood? I mainly build SPL type enclosures for comps, not so much for daily driver set up's.

For the music I normally listen to, being metal, the eight 8" subs made the bass to overpowering and with the eq settings lowered and bass boost off it was still too much and made the music sound like crap. It depends on the music I'm sure, I never said it would do it to all music, but it did it to mine.

You should be ok. I had six of them in the first box and it was great, it was too much when I added two more. I had all Rockford P2's then, so glad to get rid of them though, nothing but problems. I run a single 12" Orion WCC in a slot ported enclosure with the same amp now, and stuff like Pantera sounds awesome.

orion eh! i though orion weren't very good? actualy i was told by a few ppl not to go orion so then i decided to go with 8" subs instead! but you say and 12 orion is good for metal and such eh! maybe my next set up will involve an orion sub! or maybe even those SI d2 mags coming out soon!!

thanks again for your help and suggestions!

when i say bend the port i mean the L shape inside the box, instead of a squared L its a rounded L due to relief cuts.
Hmm, never heard of doing it that way before. I might give that a shot and see if it makes a difference on the meter. I always do the "L" shape slot ports but use a router for all the edges and use resin for the inside corner, then a little bondo or something to make it perfectly rounded along the back corner. A bit of overkill for a daily enclosure, but necessary for an SPL enclosure.

Saying a sub isn't good for a certain type of music is just stupid. And sub can be made to sound good or bad, it's all in the type of enclosure you build for it. I only picked up the Orion cause it was cheap and it would work with my amp. I run a pair of 10" Fi's too, but only for comps. I'll be picking up four T3 10" TSS's later this year, maybe those will replace the 12" Orion.

im assuming youve never heard of the Orion HCCA then? its a beast

Ive seen alot of boxes where the one end of the baffle was bent inwards and made the port inner wall.It makes the port look like the mouth of a horn.Looks pretty good too, very large flare.Ive personly done my burp stand with bent MDF.
