hey guys i have a quick question to ask!

i have heard that if you point subs into each other they will cancel out! but what if i pointed 2 subs up and 2 subs one way!

take a look at my pic below.

in the pic

red= trunk

blue = sub and sub box

black= amp

pink= wheel wells

the 2 subs in the bottem of the truck i want to point those UP and the 2 infront of the truck i wnat to point those towards the back. i was wondering if this will work or is that a NO NO.

thanks for your time

Ken

you should be fine, the chances that the subs will cancel each other out is so slim it's really not even worth thinking about. You'd have to have the subs facing just the right angle and be spaced just the right distance apart for it to happen. I've never actually heard of anyone having this happen, just people saying they've heard it can happen.

they wouldnt cancel out but it would disrupt the sound. waves would be bouncing off two different surfaces and two different angles, each reaching your ear at different time which can cause it to not sound so great. if you dont have room to do 4 of them ported facing the same way, seal them. 4 subs sealed will still be loud. i have one 10" sealed doing 138's w/ 450w

umm i c! waht i had in mind was 4 8" sealed subs but b/c of my wheel wells i wouldn't be able to fit all 4 subs and point them all the same way! each sub needs .3 cubic of space. actualy if i contour the box...maybe then i could fit all 4 ther is an idea, hey any idea on how to bend wood? does mdf bend at all?

Whynot use fiberglass?

yes. cut slits in the side of the wood (the thickness) about half an inch apart, and about half way through. enough of those will allow you to bend the wood. but be carefull, if not done properly it will break

i like the fiberglass idea, i will look into that, and also i will try to bend the wood the way reed dollaz suggest with the reliefe cuts in the woods thickness!

thanks guys you have been most helpful!

okay fiberglass seems like a very good alternative, but is it reliable? like will the sub blow it apart or anything or like no b/c it is tuff, i have never used or played with fiberglass!

if you want it to bend your going to have to use fiberglass, maybe with mdf bracing, but mdf isn't going to bend. Sealed 8's can be loud, I had eight of them in a sealed glassed enclosure, it was too much and made music sound like crap.
yes, it can be bent. there are multiple pictures on this very forum of box builds and people bending/rounding the port area.

and your telling him sealed 8's can be loud but make your music sound like crap? what kind of help is that? please, dont give advice unless you know what you're talking about. kthx

I've never heard of anyone trying that with mdf, but it could work. You'll have to reinforce the wood with fiberglass resin afterwards. The relief cuts will weaken the strength of the mdf and with a sub enclosure you need strength.

ya that make sense reinforcing it with the fiberglass resin.!.
