Pointed Up or Rear?

My friend has a 2001 4runner and i am plannin to build a box for him. I was thinkin in a big space that the 4runner trunk has it can do lots. So i was just thinking, and would love to hear from the experts on what you guys recommend.

1) Ported Box and Vent port pointing REAR

2) Ported Box Pointing Up and Vent pointing REAR

3) Ported Box and Vent pointing UP.

Which do you choose that would hit hard and sound clean?

Option one.

Only have XP with one 4runner. Mostly an SPL install. What is the goal?

I've had a lot of success in my wagon with a box that points the subwoofers and ports to the roof. My next box will point to the rear.

Subs up, Port back generally does well in SUVs.
