today my next door neighbor offered to make me a proted plexiglass box out of 3/4 inch plexiglass. the guys awsome with plexiglass. he has his own window replacment and glass cutting shop. hes built some boxes for a couple of guys i know and the look pretty good. he only wants $50 to build it for me how ever big i want.

If made correctly it should be stronger than a standard MDF enclosure.

Make sure that he braces the crap out of it and it shouldn't be a problem.

If he connects the pieces properly it will be way stronger then MDF. Plexi glass is aka Bullet proof glass. Scratches pretty easy though.

Plexi is acrylic sheet and is far from bullet proof. Lexan is polycarbonate sheet and it is the really tough stuff. Plexi is much easier to work, it can be molded bent and fused, and scratches can be buffed out. Scratch Lexan and you're done, piece is ruined.

I here ya, If it's $50 for everything. I would jump on it it a heart beat. He!! I would take enough 3/4" plexi to build the box for $50, he wouldn't even have to build it for me. I would go for it. If the guy has his own window shop or whatever then hes probly got extra glass laying around that he uses to build the boxes. you could allways have it done and if you decide you dont like it you could sell it on ebay or somthing. just make sure he knows what hes doing.

Polycarbonate is bullet-proof glass when used thick enough. RC car bodies are made of polycarbonate (Lexan). Plexiglass is just essentially plastic glass. Strong, but not bulletproof.
