Please tell me I didn't cook my ID V3

Well, I have my two ID V3 12 inch subs wired to 4Ohms on the Hifonics 1608D so thats 550 watts for both Subs. Tonight while coming home from work one of the subs start to sound well.....not sure how to type a sound but like ffpppptttzzz then it stoped playing. I thought I have burn the voice coils but I turned it off and never smelt anything at all. When I got home I decided to try it and it plays. I have only played it for like 5 minute since I got home but it works. So did I ruin it or what?

Lets see, it sounded like ffpppptttzzz, and then stopped playing, but now it plays. Seems like you have it figured out already.

Try harder to describe the situation, or expect little/no/poor advice. Ruined subs almost always sound like "farp farp farp" followed by "ggrrrrpppmmm", two thuds and a bang.

Probably clipping them, and when you were already pushing them beyond RMS ratings...

If I burnt the coils though I don't think it would play any more, never seen one that would, but I don't know waht it could have been that did the sound like that and made it stop playing, I have not had the freaking subs for maybe a week now, I sure hope it is not down for the count. I described it the best I know how, it was booming then i heard ffffzzzttttttt and nothing, only one sub was playing. So I reached up and turned it off.

It cooled down the rest of the way home, about 20 minutes and I decided to try it again before I went inside and it is playing now. I don't know just though maybe some of you more Xp guys would know what happened.

I don't get it 550Watts is above a rating of 400 per sub? Divided by two that is 275 a sub

First of all,Kid, I am sure I am FAR older than you, being that I am going to be 40 this Aug 30. So I do think your the KID. Second a pair of kicker comps AHAHAHA your kidding me right. I just gave a pair of that trash away it cost like $45 a pieceand thats new. I make more money in a week than you do in a month I would bet on that. Working at micky D's is not a good job, you should look for better.

I OWN my 04 fullsize dodge quad cab,(tricked out) my wifes 08 mustang paid for, My son and daughter both with a full size 06 F150 and a 07 Ford Escape, Paid for and i also have a room full of Image Dynamic, Re Audio, Kicker, Diamond Audio, and so forth and if you think those shitty fosgate comps are better than those polks I feel sorry for you Kid. So try more because right now you fail.

Your shitting me, you say on noozz i don't have a pair of $125.00 subs in my truck, but in fact you have NO Subs in your truck, then the ID V3 is $180.00 PER ONE so that is $360.00 per pair. Usually when a sub, or subs, stop working, and then work again later when things cool down, that's a symptom of the amplifier having issues, not the speaker(s). If it happens again, check to see if the amp is going into protection mode.

But now that I type this, I realize I should ask... were the subs wired together mono (as in parralleled or series wired)? If so, that would mean its probably not the amp, or it would have rendered both subs inoperable.

Thanks for the reply, the Subs are wired in series right now, I didn't think they should be wired to 1Ohm on the 1600D. it said 550 at 4ohms, 1100 at 2Ohm which i can't do with the D4 Subs and 1600 at 1Ohm which I was thinking would be to much for them.

I have only had them for maybe a week and only listened to them for maybe 4 hours total so far. The one is playing now, but their is a poping sound to it, it sounds to me like the coil. Do you think it could be defective from the get go? Anyways thanks for the help.

I would also like to take some time to say that my RF comps are just as good (if not better) than your Polks. Neither are anything special, so why argue this point?
