PLEASE HELP!! System is twice as loud with Trunk open

Ok so I have a Temp system in right now and it consist of a Stetsom 7k2d and a 12" DD/Hybrid in a 2.5 cuft box tuned to 38-40hz. I had it facing the back of the far in the trunk. It sounded great. Well today I decided to turn the box around to fire into the car. I have no back seats. It isnt sealed off or anything. It has about 2.5 inches of room the whole way around where the Bass can enter back into the trunk. It got wicked loud. The car was flexing three times as much and it was killing my ears. So why is this? I am stumped bad. It goes against everything I know in audio. Usally when you open your trunk the bass and pressure fall off alot to the point it dosent even sound like you have subs in your car. So please help and explain.

Turned box around to fire forward. wasnt impressed so I stopped to turn it back around, popped my trunk while in the car and system got atleast twice as loud.... WHY????

So im getting bad cancellation without the trunk open? Then when I open it the cancellation goes away? Is that right or do I want some sort of cancellation.. I have heard of this but usally using two subs....

I kinda have that problem. While doing driveby my truck is louder with both windows down rather than the one closest to the meter. Its so *** backwards.

Both of my windows where half way down also. I can make vids im a lil bit if it will help. I mean my doors flex a lil then when I open the trunk they move almost and inch. It is a very drastic change when its opened.

Well I must of missed the Memo stating that my 1996 Pontiac Grand am with a Stetsom 7k2d running a Custom made sub in a Custom made box would get louder with the Trunk open! Im glad you share your vast amounts of knowledge on the forum everyday for all of us to witness and stand back with our mouths open in amazement.
