i just purchased a system from my local audio shop and it sounds terrible. i am new at this so any info would be greatly appreciated. I have a 2013 ram 1500 crew

factory head unit

memphis audio signal processor

4 memphis audio 6x9 sr693 powered by a memphis audio sr4.300

2 memphis audio pr 12 inch subs powered by a memphis audio prx500.1

in a sealed under back seat box

the subs dont sound great and the 6x9s sound terrible, i cant turn the volume up over a 1/3 because it sounds so distorted and bad. please help if possible. thanks

im going back up there in the am. i picked up my truck at the end of the day and i didnt have time to really listen to it until i got home. I just hope it can be fixed without having to waste anything i bought or changing up my entire system. the sales guy told me that it was a memphis line out converter.

Well, there is a remarkable difference between a signal processor and a line out converter. But either way, the other gear you have should sound very nice. Did they bridge the 4 channel to two channels on the 6x9s?

It sound to me like you got a shop whose installers either don't know how to set gains/crossovers or don't care to do it properly. And if it is indeed a processor, if not set properly that can make the system sound like shite.

i guess it was a line out converter because he told me he could use a cheap 10.00 one or the one made by memphis that was 60.00??? im not sure how it was wired. anyways im going back up there and if they cant fix it im going to another shop. i was just hoping the didnt sale me a bunch of mix matched crap that isnt

compatible. thanks for all the help.

regular head unit

its a lcd with bluetooth but no nav

well guys i took it to a better shop. both amps was way out of tune. it sounds alot better. the 6x9s are still very high, he said a aftermarket head unit would help the situation, he said that he could tune it more. idk. i didnt buy one, i figured i would see what you guys recommended. he recomenede and ken wood ddx470. what should i do?

Pioneer 80PRS is a very powerful headunit (powerful in singal processing power and features). Prices on these are really fair online these days consider what they can do.

Seems like gain and crossover settings are not to your liking. I'd say there's a chance you can tweak all you need at the amps to get what you're after, otherwise a good head unit these days offers a lot of flexibility to really fine tune things.
