PLEASE help me build a HT setup!!

I can spend about $500... and I need it all!! I am CLUELESS in home audio (much like I was about car audio before I came here...Audiobahns ) so ANY help would be appreciated.....My roommate has some nice speakers with subs in them (are they called bookshelfs??) but I am open to anything cuz I am sure you guys know ALOT more then him!!

what exactly do you already have in your home/room/whatever?

ie- receiver, dvd player, etc.?

with a PS3...so I don't need a DVD player or anything like that... but a cd player would be nice.

Sorry... Using for movies AND music... I would like a little thump as well....My roommates recieved powers his speakers/sub (they are both in the same box) and it hits hard, and I'm pretty sure there is no amp....Would prefer not to get an amp....

movie's and music. well if mainly movies your enclosure needs to be large and tuned low. it will give a flatter response. get a hold of some tang band mids you may also like some of there subs. also for subs try a mach 5 maw. what size sub are you looking to use

8" subs at the biggest....I have NO IDEA what to look for on eBay and I've heard the all in one systems are garbage.....ugh, it sucks being clueless on certain things.

look at my sig at the yahama htr something something i am running that right now since i havent picked up the 700s yet (still need more money //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif ) and i can tell out of the 5 or so home theater in a box systems under 500 that ive owned and heard it is the best sounding and it gets loud! costed me 409 i seent it on special at best buy the other day for around 300.

ok for 89 bucks you can get audioque sd 8". im not sure if mach makes an 8 but tang band makes some awesome 8's. also dayton is another one to look into. mid's id grab some daytons or tang band. great prices and solid stuff. if you have any more q's ill be checking this thread often.

its more fun to biuld your own not to mention you can fine tune it to your preferance. you biuld your own enclosures right. if not it may be best to get in all in one

I noticed ED has a new line of HT speakers....I have been VERY impressed with their amps and personal feelings aside (alot of people here hate Ben and ED) how do you think that stuff will sound???
