If you hooked up the Premier DEX-P9 to a system and listened to it for a while and then hooked up the Nak md-700 to the same system and listened to it you would hear almost no audible differences...........You assume its better because it's reputation and outrageous price. But you might just be surprised by what you hear.

SQ or no SQ nakamichi is ugly. Looks to me are important too. I haven't seen one that looks good yet. Look like an old kraco or something. Mac's are supposed to be nice. Only seen them in magazines. The p9 sounds like a good option.

Yea I like looks to but thats not all I look for. If you ask me I think Panasonic is a good mix of looking/sounding good. Ive had a few personal experiences in them and I like them. They might be complicated to changes the settings on but the newer 2003's much much easier. Push on the vol knob to access the treb/bass/fader controls and use the volume knob to change when your on the setting you want to be on. Thats much easier than the older ones believe me. All my experiences have been with the older ones and I can see why ppl think they are hard to use but now they have changed them so they might be something good to look into also. I know I am. Im either lookin at a JVC Arsenal KD-SX8350 or a Panasonic MXE CQ-DFX683U. It has 2.5 volt sub/front/rear preouts. The JVC has 4 volt sub/front/rear preouts but im leaning more towards the Panasonic cuz it claims CD/MP3/WMA compatibility. Actually, I used to think the Naks were ugly (every image on the net seems to have the same bad multi-colored lighting shining on it). But then I saw an image on eBay that made me change my mind (don't have a link handy). It actually looked very clean and very nice. No bling-bling, of course; it has a very subdued elegance about it. I like it.

I can't really push you in either direction. I also like the looks of the panasonic, but if I were to go either way I'd sway towards the JVC. Digifine is new and revolutionary. The arsenal is also a nice looking deck. 4 volt preouts help also.

The DEX-P9 is the SQ part. Do understand that I had the DEX-P9 for about a month before I got the DEQ-P9 and the sound was incredible.......and this is with my previous deck being the Premier DEX-P1R.......another deck that can't be touched. I did'nt buy the P9 combo cause I thought it was better than the Nak, Eclipse, F1, Excelon......ect. I bought it for one thing, the features, the other was brand loyalty.

Denon is insanely expensive if you can even find one. As I understand it, they no longer make head units, and the cheapest I've seen a used one for was over $1500. If I had the money, I might get one, but most likely I'll just keep my eyes open for a slightly used Nakamichi CD700.
