Planning a system.

Hey,

Im ready to put a system in my 06 altima and i thought i would just run it by you guys.

This weekend im probaly going to pick up a 12" alpine type x (dual 4ohm) with a ported box.

As for the amp im looking at the Phoenix Gold Ryval V8001. Its 800w rms at 2 ohms.

Will underpowering the sub by 200w effect anything?

it says that that 800@2 is rms but seeing it only puts out 1600watts max just doesnt do it for me ha.......i will sell you a DD m1a that puts out 1200watts at 1 ohm and is wayy underrated....most people say it does about 1600watts,,.....and thats still rms

how many rms about would it put out @ 2 ohms then? you cant wire a dual 4 ohm sub to 1 ohm so it has to be wired to 2 ohms. im picking it up used off someone thats why im stuck with the dual 4 ohm

its better to overpower than underpower a sub less chance of shorting the coils during surge.

Max power doesn't mean a **** thing.

RMS is the ONLY power rating to look at here.

To answer your question, underpowering the sub will not do anything at all. It's exactly the same effect as when you turn the volume down - it puts less power to it. All it'll mean is you get slightly less volume in contrast to the full power - but the difference between 800 and 1000 watts will be minute.
