Plane on a Conveyer Belt

yah your right. I kept thinking that the wheels would have the same ammount of thrust as the engine would (when they are on a conveyor belt).
I pwned myself //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

its like this, ever see someone put their car on a dyno? sure they can go real fast but you just standing their next to the car arent you? and do you feel that? no wind! wind resistance is vital for lift. it is lift.

lets make sure we are all on the same page.

they are trying to see if a plane traveling in the opposite direction of which the conveyer belt would take off. not in the same direction.

In your Dyno example, the wheel create the thrust. On a plane thrust and forward momentum are created by a prop or jet which doesn't push off the ground. It pushes off the air. The plane will go forward no matter how fast the treadmill goes and it will reach take off speed.

QFT.

The wheels have no effect on the thrust or lift they are simply to keep the plane from sitting on the ground the speed created by thrust of the engine will not even have drag from the wheels. The engines will push the plane forward they do NOT power a drive line like a car.

Good to see yu drop in. Now if you could kindly send all your Ol School to me that would be great //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i think, no scratch that, everybody knows the wheels have nothing to do with this. the dyno example was to demonstrate that no lift will occur.

the plane (due to the weight will stay on the same spot on the belt) and will travel backwards until the plane reaches the same speed of the conveyor belt. at which time it will have no momentum or speed relative to the ground and air. the plane would have to travel faster than the conveyor to go forward.

just getting giant conveyor belt to go the take off speed of a cessna is funny in its own right.

NO IT WON'T IT WILL MOVE FORWARD JUST AS IF THE BELT WASN'T THERE. THE PROP PUSHES AIR! NOT THE GROUND! GROUND SPEED IS IRRELEVANT TO A PLANES ABILITY TO MOVE.

PERIOD!
