In that light it only makes sense to me that people such as yourself have some kind of licence to own a dog like that.. or they should be banned all together..
Where I live pits must be spayed/neutered and unless you already own one you cannot lawfully have one.. (ie they will be banned completly once the current generation dies off)

Not sure I agree or disagree with it.. but what I do disagree with is that dogs that 'look like pitbulls' are being targeted when they aren't even pits at all... WTF!

Any dog can become violent if treated in a matter that provokes them to do so.

Just like a dog can be traned to be a gental animal. but the key word here is animal. They still have animal instincts reguardless of how many years of breeding and domestication has been worked into the dogs bloodline.

My friend's parents were German Shepherd breeders and in the 25+ years of doing this there was only 1 violent episode and it wasnt the animals fault.

Also these people supplied the local K9 unit with German Shep's for Police dog traning and also took in the retired K9's aswell.

Come to find out the owners of said dog were abusive and neglected him for years, The male owner came out to the shed to feed him and the dog snapped, had enough.

Now I am not saying that evey German Shepherd is good or bad, But being raised around them I never seen or had any issues with them.

No, they are both APBT, my male just doesnt have the best conformation, but im no breeder and they are both fixed, so it doesnt matter to me.

the one that was out of control was well behaved %99.9 of the time but would SNAP and go ****ing ape shit if it saw a smaller animal and my sister wasn't there to control her...

She ended up jumping through a plate glass window trying to attack another dog and bled to death...

not just these dogs, rotts, germans, chows, mastiffs etc. It is because iresponsible handling/training and lack of proper socialization of a "dachnsund" will not usually result in such a catastrophe. By Idiots I was refering to people with violent purposes in mind or even people with lack of time and knowledge to properly "handle" these and other breeds. Owning any animal is a responsibily placed souly on the owner. I could train a pack of working breed cattle dogs to tear you limb from limb alot fast than I could a pack of "pits".

A combination of about 10 different breeds. When the breed was first made, it was used in dog fighting, and there was no standard or breed, they just bred all kinds of different dogs together to make the best overall athlete, which was usually around 50 lbs of lean dog. However, even back in these days, there was a ref in the pit that had to be able to get in between the dogs, and if the ref got bit, the dog was killed on the spot. Over years and years of doing this, there became a more standard dog and they started looking similar. But you still see many differnet variations of the Apbt. The term pit bull however is a combination of 3 different breeds, the American Pit Bull Terrier, the Staffordshire terrier, or staffy bulls, and the american stafforshire terriers.

I love dogs, I dont bash Pit's but Ill NEVER EVER own one. I was waiting for my daughter at school 2 years ago, and another parent had one on a leash. They were sitting on a bench. Everything seemed ormal. School bell rings, kids some out of class and that dog went BALLISTIC. Pulled the leash from the handlers hand (6' 200+ pound male) and started ripping into a kid. The kid was 50 ft away from the dog, and had not made contact prior. Care to explain that little incident? Another parent on scene had steel toe boots on, and kicked that thing right in the skull as hard as he could to get it off the kid. KOed the dog. It was shipped to the pound and put down within 5 minutes of arriving. I have never trusted a pit, and will not allow my children near one. One of my friends owns one, and I will not go to his house with my kids, and ask that he let the dog outside when I am there. It seems like a kewl dog and all, and is in no way trained to attack, but I just dont trust them PERIOD.

I definatly agree.. but I see a lot of people with dogs they shouldn't have... too many gangster wanna be dipshits and the like own these kinds of animals and banning them will reduce the number...

Thats fine, I never said there wasnt any violent strings from the German Shepherd breed.

But arguing about it is moot anyway since the dog in question is a pitbull.
