I can think of tons of subs that are better AND cheaper than either of those. But, no, not JL hands down. Listen to them both, and make your own call. Pioneer is severely underrated, and quite often.

If that is Pioneers highest sub, then that is geared more for SPL.

If you want a good musical Pioneer sub, peep the 3002/4's. Those are some nice subs and sound very good and save you a shit ton of money.

Those JL's sound nice, but for the money.........
