Pioneer Premier DEH-P500 skipping

I hit 143.3 on a tl on music and since then did some gain/eq adjustments and now when I crank it up on some songs my headunit will "skip" it turns off for about a second then turns back on again. Not the whole headunit just the music. Is there any way to not get it to skip other then turning it down or using an ipod since I need to use a cd. I will be entering a show with it at nw audio on the 5th and don't really want it skipping when I'm in the lanes.
