Pioneer HU Preouts

So I built myself some boxes a couple days ago, and when I plugged them in I noticed I was getting noise through the subs. I tried 2 different amps first, then I hooked one of them up to a different HU in a different vehicle. This stopped the noise. I have everything wired into my truck, I just ran the patch cable to the Alpine in my jeep and it didn't produce any noise. I'm going to try a grounded patch cable tonight when I can get one. Has anybody else had this problem? It's only on the preouts, the speakers are fine. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

if you ground the preout thats making the noise it will go away, its a problem with alot of pioneer units

you have a 960 in your sig and i'm assuming that is the deck with noise? pioneer had a lot of problems with them making noise. may have to send it in to get that ground trace proble fixed

Yeah, it's the 960. I just got done grounding my RCA's and it did no noticeable change. I tried running a new ground for the HU itself, and it got quieter, but it's still there.

I'm thinking the problem has been there I just didn't notice it untill I was looking at the subs in the new box.

I'll call pioneer tomorrow, but it looks like I may be ordering an 880 soon. Any other ideas?

EDIT:its not under warranty so i may tear into it tonight. I figure its a lost cause anyways. If I can find the problem I'll fix it but I'm thinking that the 880 is looking even sweeter.

before tearing into it sell it off, maybe get some money for that 880 you want

Try grounding you HU to the chassis of the car if you havent done so already. I did that on mine and it fixed theproblem. good luck.

Grounding the HU to the chassis where all my amps ground takes away some of the noise, but not all of it. I'm going to give Pioneer a call and see what they estimate the charge would be for fixing it. I think I'm going to be shopping around for a new unit though.
