I'm borrowing my sister's car, which has a Pioneer head unit, while she is away at Spain. It has always worked perfectly, but a few weeks ago, before I took it to college and my mother was driving it, it stopped working. I shouldn't say it stopped completely, but here are the symptoms (It's model DEH-P6500):
*The display does not show anything.
*It can not be turned on because none of the buttons respond to being pressed.
*The only way to get it to do anything is to put in a CD.
*If a CD is put in, it will play the CD (all the lights turn on and the display shows progress, etc.) but still, none of the buttons work (no pause, skip track, anything).
*I have tried inserting a CD and switching modes to Radio or AUX, but, alas, the buttons don't work.
These ones are wierder:
*When playing a CD, sound only comes from the front left channel.
*Before this happened and everything was working fine, I installed an IP bus to mini plug for an mp3 player, but that only delivered sound on the two right channels.
*For both now, the volume has to be turned up to around 40 to reach listening levels of about 25 when all the channels were working.
Assuming the sound problems are unrelated, I can probably figure out the speaker thing myself if you guys can help me solve the other problem.
I have considered the possibility that the unit was not getting power, but that would not make sense, since playing CDs works fine and everything lights up then. Still, I plan on disassembling it and checking the cables soon.
