Alpine CDA-9883 - Illumination/Dimmer for 2001 Honda Accord

Hi guys,

I just installed my new Alpine CDA-9883 stereo in 2001 Honda Accord EX. My car audio harness has 2 wires for lighting - illumination and dimmer. I connected the illumination wire to the corresponding one on the radio and it works fine: it dims when the lights are turned on. But, how do I use the dimmer control on my dashboard (variable dimmer) to dim the stereo along with everything else? Is it safe to disconnect the illumination wire from the radio and connect the dimmer wire?

Please enlighten...any help will be greatly appreciated.

there aren't too many radios that allow you to use that feature, the alpine that you have will only work with the illumination circuit.
