Pioneer DEH-P740MP Premier

Ok thanks for the input mark //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm just looking for a decent unit with some capabilities that won't break my wallet...when you say minor problems, are you talkin about things like MP3 load time?

I cannot comment on the 740 beaucse I have only used one in a Demo wall, but the P640 is freaking awsome. I love it, playes even the most scratched up CD's with ease. i mean I have a few disks that even my DVD player says "NO DISK" to and the Pioneer plays them just fine.

I've got an Premier 840, and I love it. Only downside is MP3 load time (which isnt all that slow, maybe 3-4 seconds) and you cant view folders on MP3 cd's. Other than that, it's great. I had a 6200 (before they discontinued it and replaced it with the 6400), and the EQ features on the new models are way better with much more options to fine tune your frequencies to the music you like. Of course it's not perfect, but it's dam* good. I was gonna get the one youre looking at it, but it looked too much like my old one and I wanted a change, so I spent an extra 70 and got the 840. I have a question about the MP3 capatable cd players... how do you download the mp3's to where they play on the cd player? Is it just like downloading songs and burning them onto a cd? If thats the case, then every cd player would be mp3 capatable.. please excuse my ignorance, this subject is very new to me.

it is burned onto the cd in a special "code" different from regular cd's. Its a much smaller hard to read code from what I understand. this is why MP3 cd's can fit hundreds of songs on one disk.

You burn it as a Data CD (like you were backing up the files) instead of an Audio CD, so instead of only being able to put 80 minutes on a CD, you can put 800MB on a CD. Average file of an MP3 is like 5MB (more or less depending on length of song) which equals out to roughly 160 songs per CD.

Every CD player is not MP3 capable, because they have to have the ability to read and play the MP3's from a data fomat disc. Hope that helps

And I meant subfolder in my previous post about the 840, not folders.

The graphics get a little boring, you can't select scrolling letters as a permanent thing. You have to press the stupid button every time. Load time, yeah. You can't put it on random and select a random song if you have multiple levels of mp3's. Just little things like that.

In that case, I can live with it. Thanks man
