Keep in mind that the 780 is not a simple deck. In fact for most people, and especially beginners, it is still a very sophisticated deck. It may not offer the so called "going active" three way crossover feature, but you still need to set the high and low pass filters, in other words, two way, and adjust the crossover slopes. You then have the 16 band equalizer to sort out and on top of that you have BBE settings and COMP/BMX settings. All of these settings effect the quality of the sound. So while the 780 may not be at the level of the 880, it is still a very sophisticated deck and if purchased you should expect to spend some time reading the manual and tuning it. Otherwise it will not perform to its fullest. While I am not the expert that many on this forum are, I consider myself fairly knowlegeable and I bought the 780 because of the sound quality options and flexability it offered. I saw it as a step up from my old Alpine cda 9830.
