Pioneer 840MP or JVC KDLH2000 or ???

Ok, here's the deal....

I am somewhat of a novice in the car audio arena, but I have decided my factory CD player in my '97 Saturn SL2 has got to go.... in addition, the 4 speakers (all 6 1/2"), 2 of which I have already blown, must also be replaced.

The reason I have listed these h/u's is that they both play MP3's (a must for me), and they both have pre-outs (which I have been told I will need if I decide to buy a 10" subwoofer for the trunk, since 6 1/2" speakers may not give the sound quality with booming bass).

The JVC has a better animated display, and is not motorized (less likely to have mechanical failures?), but the Pioneer Premier series seems to be very popular....

Bottom line: can the experts out there give me some help? Which h/u would you chose, and why? Basically I would like opinions on a good h/u that plays MP3's, $200-$300, and 4 speakers at around $100/pair.... or should I go with a sub in the trunk for the bass?

Help!!!! (thanks for all replies in advance)

yes, the JVC LH2000 is the same as the LH1000 that you see in the stores (repeating the same animation over and over), but after reading a few hundred more messages, and going down to the local audio shop and listening to some HU's, I have eliminated the JVC all together....

I could not find any of the Infinity speakers locally to listen to, but I did get to hear the MB Quarts.... wow! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

And, after seeing & hearing the Alpine 7995, I think the 840MP might be in trouble....

what is wrong with the MP3 playback on the Premiers? I would imagine the 740MP and the 840MP have the same MP3 features.... the Alpine is starting to look better all the time...

It has incredibly slow MP3 playback. I've gotten used to having no skips between tracks and 3-5 seconds sounds is really frustrating, especially when your trying to find a song. Check out the new JVC Digifines, they have less reliability problems and the best mp3 playback on the market.

I was actually looking at the JVC's, but now am all but decided that the Alpine 7995 is the best HU for what I want.... I just have not had a chance to see how it handles MP3 disks yet.... anyone have any experience with that model?
