Pioneer 6800MP RCA question

In the manual for my Pioneer it says that I can set the rear pre-outs to either full range or subwoofer. Does anyone know that if I have them set to subwoofer if the subwoofer controls have an effect on this output? or do the subwoofer controls only work on the actual subwoofer output regardless of what the rear out is set to?
