okay saw this unit in a shop today and its pretty slick. whats the pros and cons you guys have with it??? is there something better for the money??? thanks i have no exp. with pioneer. only with kenwood //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Well, you could have gotten a BNIB Eclipse 5425 for about $125 shipped, but the ebay auction ended.I was going to buy it, but it doesn't have a removable face plate.

Anyway, I haven't played with the 6800 yet, but it should be just like the others.Good amount of features for the money, half decent SQ, pretty good build.

well for a con its a pioneer, pro is it looks slick //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Wow, now that was some great review material right there.. what are you going to tell him to do next go out and get an alpine 7998?

Anyway, back to your original question the 680/6800 is a great reciever. I've sold quite a few of them and they sound fantastic running either just deck power or with amps for the speakers/woofers. OEL display looks great and performs like always, and the rotary commander offers intuitive control. The EQ offers a lot of performance, that I would say you have a hard time beating at that price point from the competitors offerings. If that is what you have an opportunity to purchase, and it is at the top of your price range then I say by all means pick one up. I can't see you being dissapointed.

well i would recomend the 7998 to anyone, but i didnt, im just saying i would never own pioneer again after the ones i had complete pieces of shit

Interesting, I don't know how many you've owned but I've watched at least 300 Pioneer's go out the door in the last year and only one came back. Oh, and it was the crappy one, the DEH-1700.

thanks for your help guys. i was either going with this one or the kenwood kdc-x889 but i dunno now so if anybody gets a chance to play around with it give me a holler. thanks again
