Well I don't see much of this type of stuff on here, so I thought I would share. I picked up an alpine rux-4280 off ebay bnib for $35 a little while ago. For those that don't know what it does, it basically allows you to control the amp settings from inside the car. The green display just stands out like a sore thumb compared to almost any deck that I would use. So when I got it I took it apart to see what size LED's they used. Low and behold they are 0603. I didn't have any blue LED's that size, so I had to ebay some up. It's hard to describe just how small they are, but they aren't too much bigger than the tip of a pencil (about 1.6x0.8 mm's). I took off the old LED's and then put the new ones in. Since green and blue led's operate at close to the same voltage, they just swap in. The LCD display used a single filament buld that had a green condom over it to project the alpine green. So I had to measure what voltage that was at so that I could add the appropiate resistor for a blue 3mm led. It took a couple hours to do, between running out to me car to test different things. This is what they look like before.
And here is a screen shot from a video I took of it. I couldn't get a still picture of it to come out properly. The blue is actually a little darker and the same as pretty much all other blues that you see.
So far it works just like normal and looks a hell of a lot better.
