Pickup Box Sub enclosures? Types of Sub enclosures?

So my new ride was finally delivered to me at work about an hour ago.

I bought a brand spankin new special order 08 Sport Trac Adrenalin. Great looking truck that fits my needs well.

Problem is I have no idea where the hell I am going to put my sound system. I can't use my aftermarket head unit (sync equiped, does not work without factory head unit) but the speakers and everything else should work. I didn't opt for the Audiophile system upgrade because I had a great one with my F150 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Now I have even less room to put this stuff unless I render by back seats useless. That's kind of why I bought the truck. I could make do with some type of custom box with a modular design.

What about my enclosed pickup bed? It's plenty big enough for my needs but it's not connected to the cab like a sedan's trunk. I understand that subs are not meant to be close to you, for best results. Would this still sound great in the cab?

I'd also like to use something with more bass with my 12" JBL subs. I two of them. Each in their own very small sealed wedge shape truck box. I was thinking ported or bandpass but I'm not sure. I really just want insane bass. I think sound quality is great but bass is what I think is the most fun. I wanted to keep the upgrade as cheap as possible.

Any thoughts would be helpful!

you could fiberglass a box to contour to the floor underneath the rear seat and try to fit three or four 8s. If you wanted to use the bed of the truck you would need to do a blow through and cut a hole for the box on the back wall...not sure if you want to do this considering its a brand new truck...also a center console box could be done as well.

I sure as hell am not cutting anyholes in my ride. That would decimate my ACV (actual cash value) when I trade it again without the system.

Are there websites or templates out there for 08 Sport Trac for console subs? I'ts a center console automatic shift so I can't imagine there is a ton of room there. I'd gladdly donate my entire center console to a sub since I never use them anyway.

yea thats my point.....as the for the center console I didnt realize the shifter was in it...was going off of an 03 sport trac. your best bet might be under the rear seat. How much room is under there? you might even be able to lift the seats 2-3 inches for more room.

I found a custom sealed box on ebay that fits under the rear seat with no seat mods. These are the specs:

Comes with all New Sony XS-L10S subwoofer. Its one of few subs on market that will fit under this seat. It handles 1200 watts max and 330 watts RMS.

3 3/4 mounting depth

.45 Cubic foot air space

Made of MDF on a cnc machine so very tight joints with air tight seal

Fits under passanger side rear seat

Comes with 10 hole with the sony sub allready mounted and ready to go

Has a quick disconnect terminal for easy removal

I think I am going to buy this unit and then have my two 12" JBLs in a modular ported box that will be fitted to sit on the floor in the back seat. I can just toss it in the pickup box if I need and it would kinda make a nice flat surface with the seat.

Would that be a large project? I mean... would it be difficult to add those two 12s in one box with the desinated amp on the enclosure? I need it setup in a way that it will disconnect easy and quickly. It will probably be heavy!

at least I will have decent sound quality with that under seat enclosure when my large ported box is gone. That and I will have both the tight acurate bass from the sealed as well as the low boom from the ported.

I wouldnt go with sony...pos company. their are plenty of shallow mount subs that will fit under the back seat with out mods. RE just came out with a shallow mount and with their rep Im sure its a pretty **** good sub. also you dont want to mix sub sizes and brands...wont sound good. If you want to put a sub or subs under the back seat and have the jbls on the floor in the back I would put them on switches so you could have the jbls on or the under seat subs on. Also why arent you looking at 8s? an 8 in a properly designed box will get the job done. Its all about application and two or more 8s might fit better than 2 10s or 2 12s.

I've not had time to check this out but one of my techs here at the dealership claims that JBL makes a shallow 12" sub that would work. I think thats what I have though.

My understanding is that it doesn't have to be a large driver to produce the boom I want. It's all about airflow and cubic inches of space. So if I can get better performance from a couple 8s rather than a single 12 or whatever...I'd do it.

The only reason I wasn't looking at 8" subs is mainly because I have two 12" subs that I already paid for in Nov of 07 lol.

The more I think about it the more I may just throw a large box on the floor behind the front seats and use my 12 x2 and get a ported box. Seems like the least expensive way to get the job done. It's usually just me and my wife anyway. We are both bass freaks but anyone else riding with us we would not subject to that type of music. So I don't "need" the hidden sub under the rear seat.

Thank you for your thoughts btw. I appreciate it. I just don't know enough about this stuff to make a really good decision yet.

If you want to use the subs you have you could build an enclosure that will fit between the front and backs seats. Then when wrapping the box you could get the material to match your seats and put some sort of cushion on the top while wrapping it so it would look like one big seat in the back.
