Picked up my "dream car" yesterday!

Never liked mustangs after 69, but good deal for what you had invested definatly. I remember when you were *****ing about accidently buying the bravada, guess you dont regret it now do you? lol. Why you ditching the 351? Stepping up to a big boy motor?

yeah... Worked out well in the end!

as for the 351W... the other 351W block I got with teh car happens to be a D4AE block which is one of the strongest and can handle upwards of 700HP stock 750+ with a main girdle and there are plenty with 4-bolt splayed main caps and girdles pushing cloe to 1000HP without issues, point being it woukd be a great block for say a 408W stroker. However I have yet to decide if I want to go 408W or 514 big block, which is a stock bore 460 stroker... I am leaning more towards the big block as obviously there is replacemnt for displacement when it comes to making power and the 514 stroker being a stock bore would save hundreds on machine work. Only down side is that I don't have a 460 block at the moment LOL..

It came with a 5.0HO and the D4AE block as well as the completely rebuilt D2AE 351W that is IN the car so I might sell all three and buy a nice 460 block and start on the 514... I have to think about it more but I am fairly positive at this point I will be going Big Block...

Ah...thats what i was thinking you were up to. A friend of mine has 3 460s and a 429 i thought about buying, but itd be way too much work to put it in a falcon. Alot of those ford work vans and ambulances and such you can find huge engines in, thats what my friend pulled his from. Look around for old motor homes too, they always have big blocks. Dude im talking about races for a living and has a motorhome with a built 460 stroker with CJ heads and some other stuff (not into ford that much until recently so i dont know all the details) putting down about 750 on pump gas and will spin all 4 tires and do 130+ pulling a 20ft enclosed trailer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif lol

He was showing me some stuff about the 460 heads where the later models after 78 or something have that smog tube through all the exhaust ports that chokes off an assload of flow and takes a long time to get rid of it grinding, guess thats something to look out for when buying one of those big engines, but you probably already knew that. Or are you planning on building from the ground up with a whole new bottom end?

ground up build... only Ford part being used will be the block, hopefuly a D1VE or anpther "thick webbed" block but any block should be good for the 600-700 horsepower mark I am planning... going forged crank, forged rods, forged pistons, aluminum heads, single plane intake, holley carb, MSD ignition, built C6 *****, 9" posi rear etc...

just hoping I can find a good standard bore 460 block...

Sounds good, you going for a pump gas setup or gonna be spending the big bucks? I remember neil telling me he spent about 2500 doing his whole motor over with forged/billet crap, dont remember all the details. They can definatly make some big power though.

pump gas but 93octane... don't take a ton to make power with 514 cubes. I don't really need to go all forged at a stock 460 bottom end with and H/C/I swap could make the 600hp and have no issues but I figure when I hit the track I might want to spray a 300 shot or so for shits and giggles...

UMM 700 HP will twist that car up so bad, it will be junk the first time you hit the Gas. 400 hp is all you need, With out a rollcage or subframe connecters 400 hp could twist that car past the point of repair. you could smoke the tires doing 80 with 400 HP. Plus have you seen Gas prices latly, 700 hp = 4-7 MPG 400 hp = 10-12 mpg.

unibody car + 700 hp = scrape pile with a motor in it

$2500 lol Maybe just the top end cost that much, it cost me $5000 for my motors, It cost alot of $$$$$ for a motor

LOL... apparently you think this is my first build or something? I've been building cars for around 8 years now, I think I have an IDEA of what I am doing. I have a grand total of probably $1500~ in my entire RX7 drivetrain (SBF roller motor) including the $300 shifter, $250 ignition box, $200 distributor and the built C4/custom made driveshaft. Dyno'ed around 420HP at the wheels back in July...

sorry you spend more money than you need to on motor builds... I build my motors myself and some of my family happens to own some automotive performance/machine shops in the area so I get parts at cost and machine work free //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Sorry I was not trying to say you havent built cars before. I was just pointing out the cost of a motor build , My friend has a 750 hp small block chevy, granted it is bullet proof but that costed him $13,500 to get built

what parts you need for your car, I can check to see if I can get some ( non motor parts)

sorry I got a little "defensive" on ya LOL... it does cost a LOT to have a motor built, that is for sure. but at $70/hr+ (around here anyways) labor plus the machining prices... that is why. and I am sure he is using an aftermarket block if he is pushing that much through a small block, which was probably a few grand alone...

as of right now I don't need anything, the car literaly came with BOXES of NOS and OEM parts... I think the only thing I am missing at the moment is the passenger side hood scoop insert... unless you can get me a spoiler (need front and rear) but they are pretty cheap brand eww so...
