Alright, I got this amp over the summer because I heard how stable/clean they are. They are not stable at all. After a week of having it the amp started shutting off because of thermal problems. I called PG and talked to them about the problem and they agreed that it's defective. I sent it back and got it repaired. Alright, so it worked for about 2 weeks fine but now I'm having the same problems. It's not as bad as it use to be but before it got to where I could play certain songs and it'd shut off after a couple minutes. Right now it'll take about 10 minutes before it shuts off. When I got it back it didn't shut off until last friday. I'm never buying anything PG again. That's just me though.

2 ohm load. I'm powering two idmax 12's dual 2 ohm coils... gain is set at about 1/4th and boost is about 3/4ths so it's +6db approx... It's shutting off because of thermal problems. I keep an eye on my voltage meter so there aren't any big drops. It's running at about 14.0-14.4volts. I keep the bass knob on the HU down around 8/15 (alpine) unless the song doesn't have any bass or too much bass.. I'm not hard on my amps at all. I don't really understand what's up with this. I ran it for about 3 hours on thursday (I was driving to san jose) then it shut off... Now it'll shut off after a few minutes. Really annoying. I'm going to call up tech support again in a few days.

your subs aren't run in parallel are they?

No no no... they're wired like:

I double checked the ohms with a DMM... The DMM said it's 1.5ohm but... PG explained that, that's resistance and it's not the same... I don't really understand what they meant by that but whatever. The install is fine. There is no clipping according to the oscope. It'll just shut off after a while. It's really lame.

Resistence is the measure of the opposition to the flow of direct current (DC), and is constant. Impedence is the same measure for alternating current and fluctuates with certain variables (heat, frequency, etc). That's why the rated "impedence" is called "nominal"....because it's more like an average or what they expect the sub will present to the amp as a load over it's intended operating range. The "DCR" (what you are measuring with the DMM) will always measure slightly lower than the sub's (or speakers in general) rated impedence.

You sure that o-scope ain't broke //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Are you testing with a 0db sine wave?

I can't remember if you said this or not, but does your car have voltage problems with the amp playing?

My o-scope is fine. I used 0db sine waves... it might be a bet off but I'm not sure. I also played some cds louder than I normally play. I don't blast my system. I'm actually really easy on my amps and I'm shocked that I've been having this many problems. I had a kicker kx150.2 amp for some kicker comps in the past and i haven't had any problems with it. I also had a planet audio amp and my only complaint about that one is it was really overrated and distorted a lot. Granted I was really hard on that amp. I also have a pg ti500.4 that I haven't had any thermal problems with. As far as voltage drops, I have none. I keep a eye on my gauges and lights. If I have any diming or drops I turn down the music until it goes away.
