First off - I am a huge phoenix gold fan. I can almost buy anything with a "phoenix gold" logo on it. NOT ANYMORE - NOW A DAYS PHOENIX GOLD ARE MANUFACTURING JUNKS. (At least for me on my quality scale)
I am looking to purchase some phoenix gold amps & maybe speakers for my second car.
I had a chance to look closely at the new phoenix gold series. Listen too some - even opened up a few to look at the worksmanship. The Titanium Series, Octane Series, Xenon Series. I just ruled out the Tantrum since it would be too low of a grade for me. I only prefer FlagShip Design. (Didn't get to consider the Elite Series though - No one I know seem to have them - Not even the shop carry them for DEMOs).
These new series are manufacturer like your mainstream audio product - What happen to "phoenix gold quality." Looking at the build quality - look like PG went the "mass production" route instead of the original "quality built - just not another amp" route. Look like these are made in CHINA. (I am not sure which is the exact country but sure looks cheaply built)
I think I can live with the titanium series or elite series- if buy all new stuff - they seem to still carry some quality. The rest of the series. Definitely a PASS.
These guys use to make some very high quality stuff. Today they are part of the Best Buy / Circuit City car stereo chain.
They are decent for the average consumer. Definitely not for an audiophile person.
These newer phoenix gold series are "just another amp to flood the market", "just another speaker to flood the market".
