Phoenix Gold 600.2 AMP blew two fuses in last month WTF

???
who me? lol can't take a lil ribbing? then you need to get thicker skin or find a dif site...

lol its cool i havent posted here too much tbh.

it just sounded like you told me not to first then jumped on the idea of me trying that. thats what i wanted to point out.

ohhh gotcha...

I just wanted to make sure you understood what was happening b4 you did it is all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

other things needed to be looked into 1st, was my only point

no offense intended.

WTF it blew my 80A fuse this morning within 20 minutes of heavy music. Bass boost on 0 and gain slightly more than halfway. Didn't go into thermal this time just straight blew it. Demolished the fuse too, looks disgusting. And the fuse holder melted on same places too.

Ok fixed it.

Wired the sub back to 8 ohms and used another 80A fuse. (never tried this combo, went straight to 2 ohms when I put the 80A fuse.)

Drove around for 40 minutes, playing bass heavy songs. No thermal light, no broken fuse. Lets keep fingers crossed. However its not as loud as when I had it at 2 ohms.. is it only feeding the sub 300 RMS now? I may invest in a 500 rms monoblock sub hmm.

woah so wait.

its rated 600rms when 4 ohms bridged. (manual). so at 2 ohms load it was 1200 rms (maybe THIS is why the fuse kept blowing, the sub is rated at 500rms only) ?

at 8 ohms its 300rms?

I researched the amp and it IS stable at 2 ohms mono, and it does produce close to 1200 RMS. crazy, thats prob why this whole thing was happening. I had gain close to 3/4 too and bass boost up slightly.

I have 4 options not sure what to do:

1) Leave it how it is. 4 ohm bridged, 8 ohms load. Doesnt sound loud enough and i need to put gain up more than 3/4 and bass boost is around 5 db.

2) Rewire back to 2 ohms load. 1200 rms too dangerous? I can put bass boost off and set Gain less than 1/2.

3) Trade the Alpine Type R 4ohmDVC model to 2ohmDVC model and wire at 4ohm load to get 600rms.

4) Trade the PG amp for another MONO amp thats stable at 2ohms which pushes around 500rms. Alpine MRD M500 and MRP M500 I can get for $150 and $200.

Ok I wired back to 2ohms, and I set the gain properly with a multimeter. Put the voltage around 36V. (Calculation I got for 650 w RMS, 2ohms)

Still doesn't sound that loud, idk maybe I could go higher? Calculate it for 4ohms because I also read that it doesn't give extra output when u bridge 2 ohms.

Either way.. I think this should be safe.
