Hey guys, I narrowed my choice down of the subs I'm getting to two, Phoenix Gold Ti12 and Image Dynamic IDQ12. I know both these are good subs and are good for SQ. I mostly listen to rap/hip-hop and r&b, so which of the two subs would better suited for this type of music. I know the ID's have better SQ, but I feel the the PG's would be better in this situtation. Please let me know what you guys thing because I want to purchase the subs soon. Also I will be able to get either of the subs for the same price about $90 each.

As for an amp would the Phoenix Gold Octane-R 5.0:1 be the right choice for either of these subs?

I have a single ti10. I was giving it like 300 watts with a rockford fosgate bridged amp. I was not satisfied at all, but yesterday i bought a tantrum 1200.1 because i planned on getting another ti10. Well i hooked up the single ti10 to the 1200.1 with low gain and the difference was night and day. The bass was much titer and louder. I planned on getting another sub but then im very satisfied with the way it sounds now. I know that putting it to the 1200.1 is giving it too much power but its not like i have the gain on high or i listen to the radio more than 30 minutes at a time. I really recommend spending one more hundred to get the tantrum 1200.1 instead of the octane or whatever it was for close to 200. I got my tantrum for 300. goodluck with your system

I know the Shiva's are good subs, but I want to know which of the two I listed would be better. Any comments appreciated.

Thanks for the advice on the amp as well. If someone else has any other recommendations for an amp it would be great.

If you listen to mostly Rap hip hop music then you wanna go with Image Dynamics ID v3 series woofers. The IDQ and the ID v3 have basically identical sound quality except the IDQ will perorm better with rock music and the ID will do better with rap/ hip hop because of the extra 4mm or excursion. Also the ID v3 is cheaper than the IDQ and it really is a great little woofer, along with everything ID makes.

i take the shiva for the simple fact you can get them cheap and with a full warranty. those ti's are known for having tinsel problems (i know and i hate the ti's because of it). you could give them about a 2.5 cube sealed box with 300 watts to each and you will be very pleased. i have mine in a 2 cube sealed box until i build a new one soon and they get decently low and very loud and tight.

So your saying I would be better of buying the IG ID12 V.3, I'll check them out.

But does anyone know how the PG's would be for rap and hip-hop.

my 10's were very good for rap/hip hop but not good for rock. but its also based on what size box you use. i used a LARGE sealed box for mine.
Shiva is an excellent woofer if you have the space. ID is a excellent woofer if there are space constraints. The ID v3 you can get for cheaper than a Shiva too. Sounddomain will price match any ID product on anyother website and give you the full warrenty. ID can be bought at

As for hte PG Ti Ive never heard them so I wont comment on them, but I will say you cant go wrong with ID.

Everyone is recommending the shiva, does it have better SQ that either of the sub I listed? Since everyone is recommending shiva, its probably a good sub for rap, right?

I feel ashamed even replying to this thread now. Buy whatever you want. ID is top notch SQ everyone knows that. People always recomend Adire/SI/RE/ED because thats what everyone on this forum talks about. Not bashing the shiva its a geat sub for the money but the box requirements for it are rather large. Plus id like it more if you could get it in a dual 4 or dual 2 VC model.

yeah i havent heard anything id but all ive heard about them is good sq. remember sq is subjective also. what exactly do you have to work with budget wise, box size, and power? also what do you want from your system?
