PG Tantrum 1200.1 for a JL 12w7-3?

Getting back into it!
Hey guys,

I'm thinking of replacing my 2- 10" Diamond Audio M6s because I found a 12w7-3 online for $200 picked up. I find that deal hard to beat but can only afford it if my current amp can run it.

Also, do you guys think I should replace my Pioneer 6700-deh? I think the pre-amps are 2volts and it might not be pushing enough power to the system.

Any suggestions on an upgraded H/U?

Thanks a lot guys!

According to the manual, that amplifier is supposed to produce 1200 watts x 1 with 14.4 volts of input. Of course, I don't think you will see much more than 800 watts RMS and change out of it @ 3 ohms based on its fuse rating.

Also, if you think 2 volts is not giving you enough preamp voltage, you could always purchase a line driver, assuming you are happy with your head unit. If not, look for a Alpine/Clarion/Eclipse/Pioneer HU within your budget that gives you 4 volts, or more, of preamp output power.

It's rated for full power between 2-4 ohms (1400-1500W, typically). There's no onboard fusing.

Do you think it would be running enough power to the sub at 3ohms?
My younger cousin is running his 13w7 in a JL Audio spec built ported enclosure off a MTX 81000d at 3 ohms. His sub produces enough bass to give me a headache.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Also, that lucky SOB picked up the 13w7 and a 1000/1 a couple of years back for $500 from a friend who needed money. Sadly, someone stole the JL Audio 1000/1 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif so another cousin gave him the MTX 81000d.

I am not sure what the rating of my alternator is. I have a 2004 Accord LX. No electrical upgrades. I'm currently running 2- 10" Diamond M6s off the tantrum now.

Man I'd love a JL 1000/1 for this sub but I just can't afford it. I am lucky to be picking up the sub for $200, I'll have to wait to have a box made for it though =\

ive got my 13w7 hooked up not getting the full 1500 it can take and it does what it suposed to, if you have a real 1000rms to the sub it will sound good

I'd rock a 12w7 with the Tantrum! If later on you find something is lacking or feel the need for more power, then worry about replacing your amplifier then. FWIW, you have enough power!

Now your next dilemma will be 12w7 ported versus sealed. Of course, I would recommend ported.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Part of the reason I'm making the move is because I'm hoping I can have a little bit lighter of a setup. I have a nice, heavy custom ported box for my 2 10" m6's but I really feel like it weights the car down.

What do you think?
