PG 1200.1 & 12" 187's (problem)

The speakers had just broken in and began hitting much harder and having more excursion. He changed the CD and the subs just cut out. They arent getting ANY signal from the amp. They dont move at all. Tonight I messed around with it a little by checking connections and changing the channels it was hooked on around. I got them working for a second but then it cut out again. I think that when he changed the CD he had the volume up too loud and a voltage jump blew either the speaker channels or the RCAs. I checked and the actual RCA cables are ok by switching the rcas to another amp. The amp lights up like it will work but it doesnt. When the incident occured, the gains were a little over half with bass boost on 0 and phase on 0 and crossover @ ~ 75 or so. Any suggestions on whats wrong. When my dad gets here Im going to check the coils on the 187s with a DMM and hope to get a 1.8 on each of them. Any help is much appreciated.

I tried it at 3 ohm and 1.3 ohm and neither worked. I just check the coils and in series parallel and parallel series it read correctly, so it must be the amp?

What line PG amp is it? The XENON, Tantrum? Depends on how it's wired. You might be giving the amp a load to low for it to operate. Keeps engaging the "speaker short".

Its a Tantrum. I rewired to 3 ohm after it cut out and it still didnt play.

Check the fuse. I had a fuse a while back that kept coming lose. The voltage would drop from 14.28 to .89 when I turned the amp on. Found out it was the fuse.

PG 1200.1's don't have onboard fusing...

And it's stable down to a 2 ohm load.

Yeah, I didnt think that it had a fuse on it but I wasnt sure.

No fuse could = dead amp.

Well the blue light still comes on and the fan comes on(doesnt mean much) and it played for a few seconds after I unhooked and rehooked everything back up.

i have a question regarding this subject as well. i had bought a pg tantrum 1200.1 back in october and i hooked it up to my 13w7 and turned on my car and i heard a quiet whining sound and then a pop from the amp and no sound from the sub. so i had the amp checked out and it was fried. i have a 200amp breaker at the battery. and i'm thinking i need a fuse just before the amp since it's not internally fused. what size fuse should i put at the amp? i have it running at 3ohms (same power from 1-4ohms 1500w). thanks.
