WHATS A SUBWOOFER!?!?!?
what do you guys reckon about this combo?

tweeter

midrange

woofer

probably do custom passive crossovers.

worst pic of the woofer, but ya get the idea.

its a 1 inch dome tweeter, 3.5 inch glass fibre cone midrange, and 8 inch high excursion woofer.

oh well, I ordered these yesterday morning anyway... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

maybe I'll do the mid/tweeter as passive, and have a seperate amp for the 8inch woofers... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

sounds great. i was aiming for a similar 3way xover. but i might just stick with a 2 way. i dont have too much money laying around to pour into my system right now. good luck with the parts and do a good install!

You may need to do some trap filtering on the top of the mid, to get it to behave. Breakup modes starting at about 1500Hz... that's the "hump" you see in the curve there.

I've used the Peerless tweeter before... my take on crossover, would be to do a 12 dB/oct. passive between the tweeter and mid, at about 2500Hz, and an active crossover/seperate amps between the 8" woofer and the mid/tweet. Use a low--electrical-Q lowpass on the midrange (ie, find the values for a standard 12 dB/oct. Linkwitz-Riley crossover, and try increasing the coil to 1.2 times its normal value, and DIVIDE the cap value by 1.2), and use a Zobel with a larger than normal cap and smaller than normal resistor (maybe change the cap to 25% bigger, and the resistor 20% lower numerical value). For the tweeter, I'd use a standard Linkwitz-Riley alignment, on the highpass, maybe with the frequency increased from 2500 to 2700 Hz or so.

The idea, is to AVOID a frequency response peak at 2KHz... those sound REALLY BAD. A small dip in that area (or nearby) is MUCH better than a peak. To that end, here's a diagram showing where I would start, if I had to just pick values and try a crossover (instead of my usual measurement with LMS/LEAP). If this didn't work, then you'll have to start trying trap filters or EQ'ing down 2KHz...

I dunno man... the mid is so inefficientw when compared to the other driveers, that ists not a 2khz peak, but rather a dip at every other frequency than the midrange give... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

ah yeah, I didn't wanna cross as low as 2500Hz, because I'm wanting to keep the power handeling up as much as possible, and the mid will happily to upto 4000+Hz, so thats why I was going higher...

I'll probably end up doing a 3rd order Butterworth, and at 2500Hz... why? cos I've already got some sitting here I made for some different speakers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif lol, and I'm REALLY lazy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif hahaha

sorry, no pics of the 8inch woofers, it wasn't practical to bring them home on the bus, and my car is currently off the road //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

man they look nice let us know how they sound installed:D
give me 6 months on that one!!!

here's the doors they are apparently going into:

car4fz0.jpg

tweeters in the stock tweeter location (if you can see where that is?)

midranges just below them, (just infront of the door handles)

woofers, kinda in the stock speaker location (can you say fibreglass!!!)

nice, cant wait to see the end results. what amp/ power are you gonna put to them?
I'm considering running them active.

two 4 channel amps.

two channels bridged to the 8inch woofers, and one channel to each of the mids and tweeters.

amplifiers are only fairly cheap, but great bang for buck.

linky linky

as the speakers are all 8 ohms, then the woofer will be getting about 260watts rms, and the mids and tweets will have about 95watts potential to them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
