Got it, got it, got it, got it, don't know what it is, got it, and ... got it ...
On an Acer laptop ... For less than the entry-level Macbook ...

Dual-core processor ... Macbook doesn't have it ...

2 GB of RAM ... Nope

DVD Burner ... You'd think so, but no ...

Ability to play games ... Sorry, Doom 3 at the lowest settings and Chess doesn't count

The computers at my GF's school crash all the time running OSX ... I went there for 3 classes and on 2 of those days, the Mac I was on crashed at least once ... My GF's Mac crashed on one of those days as well ...

No Viruses ? Ha ...
Macbook doesn't have Dual Core Processors??//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif Come back when you at least have the slightest idea what you're talking about.

Oh, and you can get 2 gigs of RAM in a Macbook, AND the mid-line Macbook also has a DVD burning super drive. So, try again??

So because your brother couldn't correctly diagnose the problem in his first 3 attempts, you trusted him ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif
10 minutes to set up a wireless router that's $25 instead of $130 for the Airport ... Great choice ...

#1 My brother did diagnose the problem correctly. It just worked out that everything went bad all at once. Go figure. And a $25 wireless router?? Maybe the biggest POS you can find. We got a brand new Airport Express, with the desktop stand, for $50 off eBay. Oh, and I hooked the Airport to the home theater system, and I can stream my iTunes straight to it via the airport. Can your $25 router do that?

You seem to be equating quad core processing to how fast the computer runs.
First off, Quad Core processor does not mean you have 4x the power, you have the exact same amount of power to apply to different applications. When is the last time you were playing FEAR and Rendering in 3-D Max at the same time? Dual core and quad core processors by mere definition are NOT for Average Users. If you are capable of using 4 processors to their maximum potential you are anything BUT average. AMD is STILL better for gaming, and single core STILL rules the gaming market simply because users don't play games and do other cpu intensive things at the same time.

Secondly and on that same note, 16b IS overkill for the average user. The maximum amount of ram used will be determined by what application you are running. Sure with 16gb you can load 2 ENTIRE games into the ram, but who in hell plays two games at once?

Apple flaunts Quad Core like it is some sort of amazing technology, when in fact servers have been running dual silicone setups for YEARS. Know why it never made it onto desktop systems? Because home users can't take advantage of multiple cores!
Actually, that was out of one of my previous posts. I guess Jmac doesn't know how to delete stuff before he hits the Submit Post button. No biggie man.

Hey Faktor..It appears to me Jmac is most likely on your side in the whole PC vs Mac debate, he just doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. Can you try to educate him so he stops making himself look like a simple Mac hater with no real basis for his beliefs.

Um correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the mobo the LAST thing he checked? Don't you think logically that there is a possibility that there was a SINGLE problem with the components you DID replace?

Your brother doesn't sound very computer literate either. The first thing computer techs learn is to start TESTING (not replacing) the most basic parts first (PSU, vid card, unplugging all cards and ide/sata cables besides video card) and THEN diagnosing it as either ram/cpu/mobo. Personally when I narrow it down to either the ram mobo or cpu, I replace all 3, because I rarely ever have exact parts to test those 3. Ram RARELY goes bad but I replace it anyway just to make sure there are no hidden shorts.
Actually, in this case he was right. The HD crashed. The RAM and the mobo both fried. Don't ask me how it happened, but it did. When I replaced everything, it fired right up with the original processor. How that survived is beyond me. And he is very computer literate. He spent 4 years in the Air Force doing the computer systems in Space Command, then went to work for Qwest communications doing the same thing, and now he works in NY doing the same for some other company.

I call power surge. RARELY will a HD, Ram, AND Mobo fail at the same time without some extra help from an outside source (power surge.)
Couold be the case, like I said, I don't know why they all fried, all I know is that they did. Considering my house was more than likely wired by a 3 year old redneck named Jeb, I wouldn't doubt that there was a surge bad enough to go past my surge protector.

Last I checked, the Macbook uses a Core Solo ...
On there website, they list it as a Core Duo ... Oh well, mine still has the same processor with 4x the memory, a better graphics card, a larger hard drive, a DVD burner, a larger screen, and a higher-capacity battery ... for less money ...

How about I ban you and you can come back when you can learn not to insult mods, n00b ?
Last time I checked you were wrong. The Macbook never used a core solo. The Mac Mini did, but even that one is all Duo now. And all you have to do is buy a memory kit from Newegg and looky that, you got 2 Gigs of RAM! Oh, and you can get a bigger hard drive too. Imagine that. As for the bigger screen, well, if it worries you so much, get a Macbook Pro. I know, more expensive than you Acer.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif You get what you pay for.

Oh, and "Proving A Mod Wrong" isn't in your list of bannable offenses.

I have an Apple laptop (MacBook, 2.0GHz, 2GB Ram, 80GB HD, blah blah). I love it. Its simple, easy to use, rarely have any issues on it, its perfect for simple everyday computing (I check my email on it, use the net, play music, watch DVD's, and store my work documents on it). When I use a PC daily, I want something that is hassle/worry free. I have been using Apple laptops since Jan. 2005, I will probably stick with their laptops, but desktops, I gotta stay with PC/Windows. The only appealing Apple desktop to me is the Mac Pro, and its too expensive for me, I choose to build my own.

Just put together a new desktop PC:

Dell 2407fpw 24" Widescree (1920x1200 goodness) - $680

Intel C2D E6600 2.4GHz 4MB Cache - $315

ASUS P5B-E Motherboard - $150

2GB Wintec AMPx ram (DDR667 runs at 800MHz no problems) - $200

LiteOn 16x DL DVD Burner with Lightscribe - $30

Antex NeoHE 550watt PSU - $100

Lian Li Aluminum case - $150

Logitech G15 keyboard - $55

Logitech MX1000 - $55

Klipsch Pro Media 2.0 speakers - $70

WD Raptor 74GB (boot drive) - $125

WD Caviar RE2 500GB SATAII - $190

and the pimpaliciousballershizzlefizzle

eVGA 640MB 8800GTS PCIe x16 - $490

$2600 or so. More standard features than a Mac Pro, and the price includes a 24" monitor. The 8800 isn't in yet, but it should allow me to easily game at the monitors native res of 1920x1200. I can easily upgrade ALL components in this machine when I need to, thats flexibility. I do however limit my internet usage on this computer. I don't want to have to deal with stupidity like spyware/adware.

My vote, both.
