PC Help! What processor

Ok so I picked up a decent comp for $70.

It is a Compaq Evo D510 Ultra Slim desktop with 512mb of ram.

Processor and fan not included though.

The Motherboard is product # 283974-001

It is an Intel 845GL Chipset.

Now I cannot find the exact processor this computer used because the owner ripped off the Compaq serial #. I called up HP(compaq) support, and I cannot understand 1 word those indians are saying, I just hung up. So I am trying to find the match.

I know it is around the 1.8-2.2ghz range and it is a Pentium 4 Processor.

Does it matter which P4 processor it is or will any P4 work with this motherboard? Help would be appreciated, thanks.

Assuming it is Socket T, (775) any processor that uses that specific socket will work. How much do you have to spend on this? Ill direct you to a great processor.

Not looking to spend much actually. Under $100, was gonna just buy a used one off Ebay or something. I've seen alot under $100 including fan.

Not looking for 2.6ghz processors really 2ghz is fine for me.

If it says Socket 478B and I get a 478B processor is it guaranteed to fit/operate in my motherboard?

Althoug, if you wannt spend around 100, get the P4 no doubt, as the Celeron is the WORST processor for a desktop. Or any computer period. Its stricky for someone that cant afford anything else.

That looks legit. But beware be getting ANYTHING computer related off ebay. I have seen some bad scams go though.

Thanks for linking that all to me, appreciate it. Now I am sure the processor that was in this comp before had a 256kb l2 cache and a 400mhz fsb. If I get a faster fsb and bigger cache, will it still work with my computer?

I'm mainly concerned about compatibility issues.

Yeah I picked up a completely fake Radeon off Ebay before. I chargebacked and made a new Ebay account heh.

Simply put, as long as the Socket is the same, it will work. Although, Im not sure what Compaq does with their computers. Maybe like [older] dells, and makes it so you can only upgrade using their parts. Although, that is highly unlikely, as I think it is illgal to monopolize the market in such a way.

You have no need to worry, just get a processor that fits the socket, and you should be good.
