Pawn shop score, no idea what I just purchased.

Found this today, I'm pulling it out of its enclosure as we speak.

Good deal? Any idea on what it is? Was the only decent thing they had there.

$100 out the door and it will need a new surround but its stitched, how does that work replacing a stitched surround?

Any place to order a new cone? My google fu isn't bringing up much.
Hit up sundown audio directly via email. Push on the cone, does it make any coil rub? Put it on an amp and test it. If it still works use amazing goop to repair the surround and congrats! you got yourself a nice sa 12 for 100 bucks.

if its blown and you have to recone it, might as well just get an sa 12 ultra from sundown's official yard sale on caraudioclassifieds.org rather than something beat up and blown from a pawn shop.

Rules of buying questionable subs, push on the cone, if it pushes in waay to easy then its a suspension problem, if it makes scratchy sounds then its a coil problem. If it doesnt push in at all then its blown.

Bring a digital multi meter with you and test out the coil impedances

you also want to smell the subs coils. And check for tears in the surround.

I know the pawn shop and they do test all subs coming thru, even with holes in the surround. It tested fine, I had it hooked up in the garage.

I did run to the store and the only thing I could find was shoe goo, will that work in place of the goop?

Shoe goo, Amazing goop, and E6000 are all very similar. Personally I only use those products when regluing a surround or dust cap that has come loose. For holes in the surround silicone has never let me down.

I have no idea if this is going to work. It had a hole on one side and a tear on the other. The rip was spreading a bit as I flexed the sub, after the glue was dry a bit and I could tell it wasn't going to hold. Hopefully my

new and not yet patented idea of using microfiber is going to hold. Haha

It actually seemed to work well, I used a thin coat on the outside too and it soaked right thru. Squeeze out all the excess and it should be good to go, I hope.
