What are the specific advantages and disadvantages of each material?

My box is going to be about 1.25 cubic feet, sealed, with a 12 inch sub pushed by 500-600 watts RMS. Would an internally braced box made of 3/4 inch particle board be just fine?

You Should Use Medium Density Fiberboard. Go to this website.. http://rockfordfosgate.com/2002home/ that'll give you the right formula and everything even sample boxes you could build.
