PANASONIC CQ-VW100U 7" LCD 2 din

I was looking for an inexpensive 7" LCD double din to install in my Dodge Magnum and after looking at several units, I picked up a PANASONIC CQ-VW100U from Amazon a couple weeks ago. I was tempted to try one of the cheap Chinese no-brand ones on Ebay, but I have had another Panasonic CD H.U. that I was very impressed with, so I thought I'd try another Panasonic. I do have a cheap no-brand DVD 1 din, 3.5" lcd in my Vue, and have not been happy with it's operation, especially it's FM tuner selectivity (or lack thereof)

The Panasonic CQ-VW100U does not have as many bells & whistles as some other H.U.'s, but it has plenty of A/V inputs (have rear view camera, and a 12V digital tv tuner awaiting install when I have time) The DVD picture quality is typical Panasonic razor sharp. I guess my only complaints so far is that it does not come with a remote control (haven't used the remotes in my last 3 H.U.'s anyways), and the display screen does not have any screen savers or eye candy while listening to the tuner. The parking brake wire that disables the DVD video while driving is easily hacked by just grounding this wire (or simply attaching it to the ground wire in the wiring harness).

I wasn't able to find much info on this H.U. before purchasing, so I thought I'd toss up a little info for others. So far I'm very happy with the unit.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I'm interested..

Any other information you have on this?

Can you set a background for when your not playing music, I would love to be able to set a picture of my car as the background.

Thanks.

No, Like I said, it doesn't have many bells & whistles. When you are listening to the tuner, you get a screen of your pre-sets and a couple other "links" on your touch-screen, but no, you can't add a background or screen saver.
Here's a link to a page at Panasonic where you can download the manual:

Ok thanks. Looks like a good HU overall.

I could deal without the BG image if its that much cheaper than the other DVD HUs with the same options.

i just bought this same head unit and just got done installing it a few minutes ago lol so far so good, i got mine of ebay from sonicelectrinix for 309 with free vehicle harness

i to was in the same boat for wanting a cheap dvd deck and looked all over for one and finally found this, also a big selling point is the 3 sets or pre outs : )

Worth the $300?

Anything I should know before buying one?

Depends on what you are looking for.

I'd say the pros for this unit is the high build quality, very clean LCD screen display from DVD, good fm tuner, nice clean power output if you aren't going to use an amp (right away at least.....), and lots of video inputs.

I have a Lowrance GPS, so I didn't need a built in gps, I don't use bluetooth or an ipod, and most units with built in tv tuners are analog (worthless soon). So I wasn't looking for a unit with those features. If you are looking for a unit with these features, look elsewhere. You can buy an expansion unit for bluetooth & ipod, but it's not built in.

One thing I do wish it had was the ability to change the walpaper or have a screen saver. I think the radio display may get boring after a while if that matters.

Also doesnt support video for the Ipod that I have. I guess its a no go for this HU.

Thanks for the info tho.

I'm starting some heavy O.T. at work the next few days, but after that when I get a few minutes, I'll put up a youtube video and post a link here.
Here's a link to a youtube video I made for an overview of what the Panasonic unit is like.
