Painting a box????? lets make it look like the car!!

ok so im wondering if anyone has a step by step process they would be willing to share on how to paint a speaker box? im not talking spray paint, im talking about making the box the exact same color as the car, with the same shine, and smooth touch.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

the reason i ask is because i just bought a DD9510g with a carbon fiber dustcap and i think it would look killer in a box the same color as 2006civic ( Galaxy Grey)

prime it and find a similar color at lowes hd walmart etc.. paint many coats.. find the shiny ones...

thats exactly what i was thinking.......i actually just got my car back from a body shop that fixed my car ( tree fell on it )//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif So i know they could match the color perfectly. How much do u think it would run me?

smooth all edges of the box, make sure there are no seams. if there are seams, sand them or fill them with wood/body filler. a simple glaze will do which is cheaper and in a smaller container.

then hit the box with a high build primer. you would need a compressor and paint gun for this which can both be had on a budget at Harbor Freight. after about 4-5 good coats of primer, you would wetsand the primer to a smooth finish.

time to get the paint code for your car color which can be found on the driver door jamb sticker. then take that to a local paint shop and get a perfect match. then lay down another 3-4 coats of that color and then shoot a clear over it. you will want 4-6 layers of clear so that you can wetsand and buff that to a high sheen.

there are more steps inbetween all of that, but for posting sakes I figured I would give you a heads up.

Pods are fiberglass but the box is MDF top and sides with the base fiberglassed to follow floor contours for added volume. The face was sanded with a belt sander to get the curve.

how much did the paint run you

Cheap HVLP gun 75 to 100 dollars

Paint was 167 dollars from a buddy of mine. I got enough to paint that box twice plus the pods and enough to do the front pods which I abandoned. The work was good but I didnt like how the design turned out. Into the dumpster they went.

Your probably looking at 40-60 for primer, 40-60 for paint and the same for clear. Thats for 2 part catalyzed systems.
