howdy again folks, just wondering if someone can keep me from doing something dumb and screwing myself and someone else here. i've gotten this far on packing my amp and 6.5"s but am scared of messing up surrounds on them and how to finish this up to get it to ups before they close. I've got them in there securely, they aren't gonna be moving around at all.

What appears to be the bottom of box is actually top of amp just with a piece of cardboard to keep from scratching all up, was thinking about doing same thing with the speakers but realized it'd probably rub the crppola out of the surrounds. I don't have time nor wood to make a baffle of sorts and was gonna give him the grills from my ED 6000's but only have 1 of them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif please help.

try making a ring, or two, of mdf and screwing the drivers together on that then shipping the result...maybe in a wine box, or popcorn canister???

or separate small boxes for the individual drivers well packed with shipping material then both of those in a larger box.

heck, this sounds like I'm gettin' em:crap:

it actually just hit me, if the cardboard is the same size as the box then it won't move and won't scuff/tear surround. I will take you advice on the peanuts instead of paper but honestly i can get a better fit with the paper. thanks greatly maybe the reciepiant(sp?) will come on in and let meknow what he thinks.

IF there is damage, newspaper will void any claim. Newspaper is not shipping material...how do I know??? Been on the receiving end of a fiasco and had to get rid of the newspaper before the UPS man showed up.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

it's cool you asked though, most people just ship however they want. You're right, whoever bought 'em oughta chime in.

oh don't be confused, i absolutly believe you, that is why i said i'd use your advice, just can get better fit with the paper. thanks for your help and i'm sure that the man recieving them will be happy aswell.

Those subs aren't that heavy so you won't really need to make a full crate like I did when I mailed out an 18" XXX. The thing to really worry about is that the two subs will bang into each other and break the baskets. Personally, I would get some cheap OSB, some 2x4, and some screws so you can build a housing around everything. If you don't want to do that then upholstry foam is great as a packing material and pretty cheap if you ask for scraps at a furniture place or rip up an old couch. Whatever you do, move the subs away from the edges, you need at least 3" of padding on each side of the box; otherwise, you are just asking for the baskets to be broken when the box is manhandled and dropped by the shipper.

btw these are midwoofer not subs, same points may be valid i suppose though maybe not as much foam around edges, perhap an inch or so.
Okay, retarded moment. Just use 3" on foam on each side then. No shipping companies will not reimburse on damages you unless there is at least 2" of foam on all sides. Since they are mids, your main problem will be having the cones/surrounds crushed or torn rather than broken backets. The box inside a box method is usually the best method to prevent that.

yeah went to ship, replaced paper with peanuts with amble room on sides, blah blah blah. basically i just need to read up or talk to one of those btches to make sure i'm understanding the "rules of shipping". kinda pissed me off since i'm sure they would have made it but were uninsurable, although i understand. better then last time i tried to ship, since i got pulled over and still looking at dodging 9 months from that.

Sorry buyer but shipping will be monday, i coulda sent without insurance but nope, i'll just have them pack on monday.
