Sound quality is subjective. See my sig.

Honestly I don't see how you can compare the two. One has sketchy reliability and outdated or no features and the other has upgrade possibilities out the whazoo, awesome processing, great reliability, and is known to at least sound very good if not great.

By the way, I own a PRS-880 and love it so I might be biased. But you can't tell me that the NAK sounds sooooooo much better its worth giving up everything the Pioneer has. Besides, what good is great sound quality if it doesn't work all the time?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

I think the Pioneer may have the 1bit Burr Brown DAC's that upconvert the signal to 24bit word, where the Naks have the actual 24bit DAC's..... My older Pioneer HU was like this, may different on the 880 though....
I noticed you were making this claim in another thread yet you never explained how you know this or show any proof of this. Please don't make those comments unless you have some proof.

Like I said in the other thread: What matters most is the bit resolution.

Actually Eclipse IS what you would find in a stock Toyota.
Wow, reason # 101 why I would never buy (or even borrow) a Toyota.

I'm hoping someone with a Nak or who knows them can help with a couple of questions:

1) I know the CD-400 and 500 have an aux input in the back, but I can't find any info on what it is - RCA?, 1/8"? I'm wanting to tie in my MP3 player to the HU. Will this work well through the Nak's aux input, or does this input require a pre-amped signal?

2) Is there such a thing as an authorized Nakamaichi retailer in the US for car audio? I'm concerned that the few places I can find to buy a CD-400 or 500 could strand me with no warranty path if needed.

Thanks

Great. Thanks.

1) Does anyone know if that RCA input is suited for the signal from an MP3 player, or does it need the preamped signal from something like a CD changer, etc.

2) I realize forums steer clear of naming retailers, but I can't seem to find any info on Nak's site for authorized US sources. How do I find one?

pioneer's website lists it as 1 bit

I said I think that this unit had this because my DEH-P8600MP also had the same thing listed in the Pioneer website for the DAC.... As I stated in the other thread, I tried to get clarification from Pioneer themselves and got nothing but a vague response on my particular model. This was a couple of years back. I wanted some clarification regarding the whole 1bit DAC with 24bit resolution, compared to a regular 24bit DAC (one of the questions I asked). I then did some searching and came across some information regarding these types of DAC's, and why they are used. I personally do not really care if it is or not, I am happy with the HU choice I made. You are the one that seems to have a problem with my having chosen the Eclipse HU over the Pioneer unit. If you feel like doing the searching... do it. I am done with that. Maybe you can actually get a good response from Pioneer themselves..... this was not something that they were able to provide for me....

First of all I could care less what deck you run in your vehicle. It is your choice and yours alone. What I didn't care for is how you were sort of trying to sell your "belief" as a fact. I really don't know what the difference is between a 24bit converter and a 1 bit converter with 24bit resolution. I still think it's just pioneer's website that is screwy and that the converters really ARE 24 bit.

NO, they don't. In the left column of the "specifications" page it says "1 bit d/a converter" on the specs of ALL of their decks. Even the decks that are 16bit. Then in the left column it shows what actual converter is in that particular deck. In the case of the 880 PRS it says "24bit burr-brown".
