Overheating mids highs amp

So any help would be awesome. I have my Polk pa660 hooked up for my speakers. There is one specific volume at which it will overheat above that level to the point thermal protection takes over. Mounting is good. At least it should be. It's raised and horizontal above a laptop cooling pad. So quick disclaimer I am an electrician so I will say all connections are sound. I don't know why it would start overheating at such a specific volume setting.

Sounds like when you hit that certain volume you're clipping the hell out of the signal causing it to overheat. Either don't hit that volume or ensure the gains are set properly.
