Back in the day everybody used oval speakers, but nowadays not so much. My vehicle's dash has 4x6 ovals. The front doors have 6.5". Im looking to run 400.4 rms. Would i be better off getting the 6.5's for the doors and running 1" tweets in the 4x6" slots in the dash, or doing the 4x6's up there?

Fk the 4x6s, just make some adapters to fit 3 inch midranges and have the tweeters in the a pillars or sail panels(whichever sounds better) and the 6.5s in the doors.

Not sure what your budget is, or what you are going for, but Theres a nice selection of 4" mids available. I guarantee there is a generic adapter to make em fit easy. You should have room to fit tweets anywhere. I would go with a set of 3 way components. 6.5" in the door, 4"s in the dash, and tweeters somewhere near between.
