Output of one IDMAX vs. two Atlas's

ALRIGHTY. I have two 12" AA Atlas's in a sealed box-1.8 cu. ft. per sub. I ported them in the same box to 30 Hz-still not enough for me. Didnt seem much louder than sealed at all. Probably the small box, but its all the room I have to work with.

So now Im thinking of replacing them with a 12" IDMAX in a ported box (30ish Hz). I have a Diamond D5600.1 for power, so 600-700 watts. If I take out the divider in my box I have around 3.6 cu. ft. or anything under that to work with.

Anyway, how much louder SHOULD the IDMAX be than the 2 Atlas's? A big increase, or hardly noticable?

i have a single 12" IDmax powered by a modded 1501d in 4 ohms. it gets pretty dammn loud but unfortunately i can't say how much louder it is than those subs because i've never heard them. id like to know myself too though.. i wouldve thought two atlases would give one 12" idMAX a run for its money. all i know is the idMAX it makes my car rattle so much im not really enjoying turning it up so loud. lol. but its still GREAT. maybe if i sound deaden, not only will i gain a db or two and eliminate some rattling, it will probably be like heaven to me. but i dont plan on getting a second idMAX... at least not anytime soon.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i dont think you will have much of an output difference. the atlas' have like 20~25mm of xmax if i recall correctly, and the idmax has like 30~35ish or somthing - again if i recall correctly.

but the sd of the two atlas's is going to be roughly twice the idmax... and they will be at RMS wheras the idmax will be a little underpowered.

id keep what you have now if i were you.

i had 2 Atlas 12's sealed (1.25 each ~320rms)

i now have 1 type r 12 (2.8 net @ 32 hz w/ 33 sq in port area).

it is louder than the atlas 12's with only ~ 450rms, so i think the single idmax will get louder

cant wait to push 700ish to it (yes i know people put 1000 to it but i cant really do that because i dont have a scope to make sure theres no distortion)

Alright. I have another question now. I have an Eclipse sw6123DVC in there for the hell of it (Eclipses lowest model, 250wrms, .81 in. emax), pretty much expereminting with it. Its in one of the ported boxes (1.8 cu ft.) gettin 600wrms and gets as loud as my 2 Atlas's sealed (maybe a touch louder). Is it just from all the power and the ported box? Id think if this dinky thing would get as loud as my 2 Atlas's, something like an IDMAX would murder it. What gives?

i noticed that the atlas's spl sucks ***, their SQ on the other hand was amazing.

but i had it in a sealed box and didnt ever get a chance to build a properly ported one.

i also wondered why their spl sucks so much, i know they are sq subs but they still got 17mm one way xmax.

Lol, yeah, and this is even a crappy box I have the Eclipse in. It was my sealed on and it was good, but I just put the port in half a$$ed (duct taped in, because they are coming back out and box will get sealed back up) and air is leaking out around the sub lol.

Any 12's out there that will smoke my Atlas's output wise and still sound pretty good, and work with what I have? IA LI?

sorry bro cant help ya there. too many ppl suggest too many different things.

i suggest getting all sorts of suggestions and narrowing it down to a few and then u decide urself from there.

do a search, ppl ask about suggestions all the time and there are lots and lots of threads out there with plenty of great info.

im saying the idmax ported will be noticably louder and better sounding.

why not get an ava? 3.6 sealed will hit the low notes like crazy and they have a lot of spl to back em up. ported, thats enough space to make it work also...the choice is yours. that 6-700w should get it moving pretty good too! ...and youll still retain your sq
