Out of audio for a bit, seeking advice

Hello. I have been out of car audio and was looking to get a barometer reading on where the mid range qulity car audio gear is at this time. I have a 2006 Nissan Sentra with decent trunk space. Here is the type of system I am looking to build:

CD\Mp3 deck

2-3 pc mids (6.5 inch)

Dedicated mid amp w\ crossover

Dedicated bass Amp with crossover

1 - 2 12" woofers. (If I can find a single woofer that really outshines and is a little more $...I would do that instead of two)

My guideline on the components is that I do not need the absolute best. However, I don;t want any weak equipment either...I want something to be proud of. If you have some suggestions for any areas of the system I would really like that. I like rock music....but I also like bass heavy music as well. So nice deep bass and well as punchy response is desired. Let me know if you can help. Thanks

Do you have a specific budget?

Depending on how much you're looking to spend on components, you can find some good deals out there. Check out the CA Classifieds section on these forums and look for brands like Morel, Hertz, Focal, just to name a few.

As for a sub, I would recommend to you perhaps a Fi Q? Depending on your budget. It will get loud and low on rap and have no trouble keeping up with quick drum kicks of rock music.

Hope that helps, and like I said if you could throw us a budget we could narrow it down a bit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

all the brands you named (aside for the FI) are not midrange products. They can get rather expensive.

For headunits, look into Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, Eclipse( a bit more high end) and just shop according to your budget.

For component set, the best bang for the buck right now is the PG RSD set. All i've heard about them are good things. My friend will try out a set next week so I'll see if they live up to the hype.

For amps, there are many choices here. A couple of brands are Kicker, Audioque, JBL, Sundown, Powerbass, Soundstream. There are more but i'm just throwing it out there.

As for subs you can go with FI as mentioned. Or you can also look into Audioque, Stereo Integrity, Sundown also has a couple of subs, Mach5 Audio has some great subs for the price.

There are more but that's all i can think of for now. The most important thing to remember is to browse the classifieds, there are a lot of good stuff for cheap out there.

Id say stay within a budget of $1500 (+/- $200)

Yeh, but he said he wanted something to be proud of //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

And you might find some for reasonable prices in the classifieds.

To the OP - He mentioned some good brands, AQ (audioque.com) would be great for a sub and/or sub amp. Very reasonable and solid equipment. I know they have components as well but I have no experience with them. Morel Tempos can be had for $250 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif I have Kenwood fronts but would not recommend them. They are not much better than stock.

Pioneer head units (or even Sony, IME) are very good for the price. Alpine and others are better but that comes at a cost.

Check into all of the brands you see and don't be afraid to ask questions!

Last setup I had was two RF amps. I was tempted to get HiFonics at the time...but I heard they weren't doing as good as they used to back in the days. Who had quality gear for a decent price without getting out of control with name brand based pricing.

I have been looking at the JL Audio line of woofers...can any one speak on them or give reference to quality?
JL amps sucks, JL subs are good, but pricey

Sundown, Kicker, Atomic, RD Audio. It all depends on what you're looking to spend and what kind of power you're looking for.
