Our privacy is gone to SH*tz! Cablevision sent me a warning

i dont do any illegal downloading, nor have i spent much time studying their methods of reprisal.or the seriousness of their desire to stop it from happening, however i can share a few things about what they can and cant prove about your internet use,

the whole i have an unsecured network thing wont work at all, you just end up being caught in another lie if it goes to court, they will have records of your isp,and your specific computers mac address, the mac address is encoded into the mother board not the harddrive so forget about tossing your harddrive thats a waste of time also,

also useing a third party service is no guarantee of saftey, there are things called referers which can be tracked back to the original isp, even onion routing proxy servers like tor and privoxy can be undone if they want you bad enough , but that would be unlikely in this case, however dont run out and download tor privoxy just because it is unlikely that they would be able to crack it, because it will slow down your bandwidth so much it woulds take forever to download anything.

what it boils down to is that if you have already gotten the letter you need to stop stealing, they can prove it, they may not go through the trouble but then again they might decide to make an example of you,

i got a letter like that from direct tv and at the advice of my lawyer i ignored it. it cost me alot to do that, the lawyers and direct tv made thousands of dollars because i thought it would just go away,

so you can bet your azz i keep my nose clean from now on, it can happen to you, the internet is in no way secure or anon. even with security measures, and like it or not for now that is just the way it is,

however since i quit doing anything wrong i quit having any problems from people trying to breach my privacy, seems like they are only interested in spending the time money and resources,on violating the privacy of people that are costing them money. and violating their rights.

good luck and hopefully they arent going to pursue your particular case, but i would take it as a serious warning if i were you .

I'd be interested to see information about what companies are giving up the information to the RIAA. We know Cablevision is apparently but what about Comcast, Verizon, and other major companies?

I was going to download that but they don't have a version out for Vista yet. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif
Anyone know of something like PeerGuardian that works with Vista?
http://phrosty.phoenixlabs.org/pg2-rc1/

Peer Guardian for Vista.

In beta stage BTW. Expect issues...

I use it, but sometimes it freezes. Just make sure everything is running on PG2 before you start doing anything else, and all should be fine.
