Velleman 10 MHz Handheld Oscilloscope

i recently came across this on PE, it comes with a free DMM for a limited time and its priced on sale at $165...

anyone have any experience with this? or any other cheaper hand held Oscope?

any other suggestions or what i should look for when shoping for a Oscope?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I'm pretty sure that's the one I have. Works good for me. It's simple and that's a good price and a free DMM?

I like mine use it all the time. Sometimes you have to hit the reset button if things are looking screwy, but I guess that's why there is a reset button.

cool bro...thanks

qq, newbish questions but this should allow me to check for clipping right? you'd think so since its a Oscope but i just wanted to make sure if there isn't anything special that i should be looking for in the specs to make sure checks for clipping...i'm guessing so since it says signal analysis on car audio applications...

anyone think the 10:1 attachment kit for $20 is worth it as well? or is the stock stuff with the Oscope good enough?

10:1 Probe

Yes it will check for clipping. If it doesn't come with the probe already you will need to buy that one.

and for anyone looking to buy a hand held Oscope, DON'T!!! buy that one from PE...that is the HPS5, the older version...

instead, shop here: http://www.tequipment.net/specials.html

the got the HPS10SE on sale now for $129 and HPS40 for $219...sick prices, lowest i've found anywhere online!

Oh yea you're right that is the older one. Sorry I didn't look close enough.

I have the HPS10SE as well. But I paid 189 a couple years ago from PE.

just remember when looking for an oscilloscope for audio applications that you won't need to go over 20khz, so buying a 10Mhz over 2Mhz scope has no justification
so in simpiler words, buying the HPS40 over the HPS10SE is stupid because the HPS10SE is plenty for car audio...right?

i was looking at that as well...saving $90 would be nice to have something that does what i need it to and nothing i don't...

the hps40 has a better LCD. not sure how much you'll notice the difference otherwise.
yeah i notice it has almost 2x the resolution...

i'm thinkin real hard right now if that extra $90 is worth it in the long haul...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

id recommend a used tek scope from ebay if you can afford it.
i can assure you i can afford pretty much anything that is spoken in this forum...the question is do i want to since this is mearly a hobby of mine and i'm a big shopper of getting the biggest bang for the buck...

but in short, the benefits probably wouldn't outweight the cost in my situation...

Sorry to threadjack, but my electronics teacher has an oscope and said he wouldn't mind letting me use it after school some night (I'll drive my car into the schools garage and he said he'll hook it up). Although I think he knows what he's doing, but you just hook two probes upto the speaker +/- and it should do the rest right?
